OAKLAND A teenager whose brother was slain last month was shot and killed early Thursday evening outside a crowded music concert in East Oakland.
Police said the shooting was likely gang related.
William Guzman, 14, was riding his bike along International Boulevard at 92nd Avenue, where hundreds of young people were crowding into an outdoor party hosted by hip-hop station 106.1 FM-KMEL, police said.
Oakland police Lt. Kenny Whitman said police are not sure if there is any connection between the shooting and the party.
Guzman was shot in the head just after 5 p.m., surrounded by a crowd of people gathered in the middle of International Boulevard about five blocks from where he lived, police said.
He died a short while later at Highland Hospital.
Sgt. Tim Nolan said police believe Guzman was targeted
by Norteno gang members. Police were looking for three Hispanic men who fled on foot after the shooting.
The victim's mother collapsed after coming to the scene with several other family members and required medical attention, police said.
Her son Salvador Guzman was shot and killed April 3 as he waited to catch a bus in the 7300 block of International Boulevard.
He was 16 and the father of one child. Police have made no arrests in that shooting.
Salvador Guzman was Oakland's 36th homicide victim this year. His brother William was the city's 55th.
