too bad of a possibility....

Alex doesnt count 8.2 mil against the cap in 08, but 4.2m. ALex got a 49.5 mil deal,, but what wasnt taken into account was the fact that he had 8.5m in incentives that of course he hasnt reached.

Thus his deal makes him very cuttable or tradeable.

Cutting him after june 1st, saves the team 2.3m against the 08 cap, but before june 1st creates an extra 1.9m of dead money on top of his 4.2m salary.

I wouldn't be mad at it. He's obviously not the answer in my opinion, hurt shoulder or not. The only thing that would truly help though is getting another QB through a trade or free agency because drafting one (at whatever spot we end up after this year) wouldn't make much of an impact right away either. We'd be experiecing those "growing pains" all over again.

Who's really out there that's worth pursuing next year?

Cut that weenie! bring in Rex Grossman at a cheap price or try hard to get Derek Anderson! He's a pac-10 player from Oregon St who had solid numbers in college! That would be more ideal since the Browns drafted Quinn. They aren't going to let his ass sit on the bench. The Browns might do what the Chargers did with River and Brees. They signed Brees for another year so that Rivers can prepare to take the starting job while Brees hit the free agency market.

^^^ Anderson is a RFA, so we would have to give up a draft pick. It would be worth it but Nolan probably wouldnt want to give up a draft pick.

We'll probably cut Jennings, Smith, Smith and Jackson.

I was saying from the beginning they should have picked rodgers. First cuz im a cal fan. secondly because alex smith was never worthy of being top pick. he was a system qb who played out of the spread shotgun. of course he is gonna put up big numbers playing mediocre opponents.
alex smith wouldnt have been a top pick any other year. hes just not that good. ive been saying it from the beginning and he keeps strengthening my argument.
