I have well over 100 hours of work on me and one of my closest homies is a licensed tattooist, 20% tip is what they're expecting. I guarentee that if drop the tip, next time you go in and all the rest of future tats will be at a hooked up price.

Also, I've only known a few shops where the artist pulled in more than half the cost of the tat. My homies old shop used to be 60/40 for the artist but once it was bought out, the new owner changed it to 50/50. He spent quite a bit of time searching for a shop that was more than 50/50 and there is not too many out there. (Or around my way anyways)

If you have 4 tats done and you didn't know about dropping a tip, then maybe you don't know as much as you think you do.

i know you can drop a tip,and my boy is an artist in marin,im jus sayin it aint like you HAVE to drop a tip,i reccomend certain artist to people,and im almost sure they prefer that then an extra 20-30 bucks.there more interested in gettin there name out then gettin a couple extra bucks.oh and sorry for being 10 percent off on my assumption of what artist did with there money

I can't disagree with you there, if you're bringing the dude extra business then I guess a tip wouldn't really be necessary. I actually do both for my artist, I'll tip him and bring him in some extra business and I get hooked up really cheap.

im trying to find a great portrait (cant spell) artist,when i was out in reno,i was at this one parlor and they had hella trade tattoo artist magazines or sumthin,its this one cat out in vegas,forgot his name but he is really goood at doin portraits, most places its like 6-800... one spot told me 400-500 depending on the size...

but when i look at the picture i want it to bring back memorys,very visual,just on point,replica..its gon be a picture of my auntie with
"rest in plush" on top and below it..not written twice but femme "rest in" (on top) then "plush" (on bottom)

I didnt realize how hard it was to take a picture of your back until I tried to contribute to this thread haha.

My 1st tattoo, I didnt know how much to give the guy for a tip, so he said "Either give me 180 and a 20 dollar tip, or just give me 200." Haha, made my day easier.
