WWE: Full Smackdown! spoilers; Orton appears despite being suspended by company
Wrestlemag.com @ 2:37 am
Thanks to Dan Brown for sending in the following results from last night’s Smackdown! TV Tapings in Peoria, IL:
Dark Matches:
- Gymini beat CM Punk & Matt Polinsky
- Matt Hardy beat Colt Cabana (This may have made it to Velocity although Josh Matthews and Steve Romero didn’t appear until afterwards).
Velocity:
- Finlay pinned Psicosis
- Kid Kash & Jamie Noble beat Scotty 2 Hotty and Funaki after Kash pinned Funaki.
- Lashley pinned Vito after a Dominator
Smackdown!:
- Brian Kendrick & Paul London defeated MNM by pinfall after a quick roll-up. This match had a lot of near-falls and was pretty fast-paced
- Booker T lost to who I think could have been Brent Albright. Boogeyman’s music played, distracting Booker who was rolled up quickly for the pin.
- Chris Benoit beat Simon Dean. Afterwards (this won’t go on TV), Teddy Long announced Benoit vs JBL in a Cage Match to close the show.
- Kurt Angle and Randy Orton had a showdown backstage, resulting in Orton slapping him, firing Angle up.
- Paul Burchill beat William Regal after the C4. Really good match. Before it, they cut a promo backstage, making a deal that had Regal won, Burchill dropped the Pirate attire, but if Regal lost, Burchill would choose his ring attire. The skit ended with Burchill saying Regal would “make for a buxom wench.”
- Rey Mysterio beat Randy Orton to retain the World Heavyweight Title. Orton dominated most of the match which I found weird considered WWE have announced he is suspended. Mysterio made the comeback with a 619 around the ring post followed by another 619 in the ring, then hit the West Coast Pop for the pin. Not as strong a reaction for Mysterio as you’d expect.
- In Teddy Long’s office, several members of the roster were assembled. Long said that the King of the Ring tournament would be coming back to WWE and that the first qualifying match would take place next week: Kurt Angle vs Randy Orton
- Undertaker vs Mark Henry went to a no-contest. Yes, this headlined over the title match. Only in WWE, folks. Undertaker was destroying Henry until Daivari introduced Dalip Singh, who had a staredown with Undertaker then beat him up. The cameras stopped rolling with Undertaker laid out as Singh and Daivari celebrate.
Post-TV Dark Match:
- JBL beat Chris Benoit to retain the US Title. Decent match that ended with JBL tying Benoit to the top of the cage, allowing him to escpae through the door.
