The Toronto SlutWalk featured over 1000 sign-wielding women, children and men who stomped, yelled, cheered, and hollered as they marched from Queen's Park to Police Headquarters with the strong message that "we've had enough."

"It's not about sex, it's about ethics" read one poster. "Believe it or not, my short skirt has NOTHING to do with you" screamed another.

The SlutWalk was founded shortly after an incident at York University where a Toronto Police officer stated that "women should avoid dressing like sluts in order to not be victimized" during a campus safety information session.

Melissa (who declined to give her last name) told me the idea that women "ask for it" by dressing a certain way is disgusting.

"If I want to wear a short skirt, or a low cut top, that does NOT mean I want you to touch me. I should be able to dress how I want without worrying about my safety, or about how people view me," she said, before loudly adding, "This is 2011, not 1950!"

I lightweight agree with the person who said when you dress like a slut you are asking for it.

Not that I agree with, nor condone rape, but there is weirdos out there. We dont control how they act / think, but you can control the way you dress. Dont dress up like a whore & tempt those oddballs... they might not rape YOU, maybe they'll go rape a child, or someone else, with that thought of YOUR short mini-skirt / tiddies falling out while doing it.

...with that said, I DO endorse sluts & the way they dress because I am not a rapist.

only a fan of teh tids & pussu.
WORD!

I understand your reasoning but that line of thinking does place blame on the victim, don't it? Does the victim really deserve the blame? Also saying that girls dressing up like whores could cause those oddballs to rape other people takes the blame away from the rapist. Dude is hella fucked up in the head and anything could set him off, watching porn, seeing pictures in a magazine, anything.

Also, statistics say that most rape victims know the assaulter personally. It's typically not just some oddball on the street who saw a girl in a short skirt and decided he's going to rape the bitch.

In some cases, the victim deserves some of blame. Not in all cases, but in some cases.

Many of the people who are raped have a history of putting themselves in higher risk situations because of their own psychological issues.

Making the choice to put yourself in a higher risk situation means you are partially responsible - because you made the choice to do so.

You may argue that they are putting themselves in such higher risk situations because of the aforemetnoned pyschological issues, so in reality it is not their fault.

However, many of the rapists themselves commit their crimes because of psychological issues so blaming the victim's issues in one instance would impact blame in the other instance. In other words, if the victim is exempted from fault because of psychological issues, than it would consequently mitigate the fault of the perpetrator.

Does the victim really deserve the blame? Also saying that girls dressing up like whores could cause those oddballs to rape other people takes the blame away from the rapist. Dude is hella fucked up in the head and anything could set him off, watching porn, seeing pictures in a magazine, anything.
It's not a black and white issues and should be looked at on a spectrum.

If a girl is sitting in her home watching TV and some guy randomly breaks in and rapes her - The victim obviously had 0 fault.

On the other hand, if Lela Star is going door to door naked, ringing doorbells and then bending over and spreading her ass when someone answers the door - I would say she is partially at fault if someone does something to her.

Wearing abnormally provocative clothing generates an innate reproductive impulse in the opposite sex. Some people cannot control that impulse. We know that some people can't control that impulse. Taking that risk is a choice someone makes.

Also, statistics say that most rape victims know the assaulter personally. It's typically not just some oddball on the street who saw a girl in a short skirt and decided he's going to rape the bitch.
Look this is not to say that the assaulters aren't terrible people who should be violently punished and are totally wrong for what they do - only that knowingly taking a risk puts some blame on the risk taker.
