It depend on what region is gettin the spotlite, cuz its a lotta "grimey" rappers from new york that dont compromise they music. If the rap game wasn't so biased northern california could keep doin they thing, but new york media controlls the game.

We get a new version of this same topic everyday lol ..

The problem I'm having is that you guys (fans) are making it more about geography than music. You know why that is? Because you guys (fans) don't have appreciation for the music anymore because you get it for free. You take the actual music for granted because you don't have to come out of your pocket for it. You don't have to sacrifice anything for it. You just turn on your computer, do a search then download and burn it. If you can't find it, you e-mail someone and they'll get it for you. I'll bet you there's a 14 or 15 year old on this site somewhere who's NEVER been to a music store but has a bigger music collection than most of us.

If someone from the bay had a "In Da Club" caliber hit record right now, it would be about the hit record and not where the artist is from. Also, if one artist blows up from out here that don't mean the whole area will. There will definitely be more opportunities BUT there's no guarantee that the Bay will blow like Atlanta did.

last word, what you been sleepin under a rock, the game is all about ya region. you talkin like nobody from the bay makes quality music, i know there is a lotta trash out there, but the quality music still aint shinin' cuz we get hated on. They dont know how to market a bay area artist. you dont have to market a new york, atl, stl, or houston rapper anymore cuz its enough hype about where they from. like every rapper from those other places makes quality music? Step it up man!

Someone please tell me how do we get "hated on"?

You know why they don't know how to market a bay area artist? NO HIT RECORDS.

You know why you don't have to market people from those other regions anymore? HIT RECORDS.

If you make hits people take notice. If you sell in your home market, the labels take notice. The bay will never impress in it's home market because all the 'fans' download everything.

I've been makin music and following music industry trends for 10 years man, I know what I'm talking about. Half of you cats can't tell me where Rick Rock is really from. The man makes HITS that's all that matters. Half of you can't tell me where an artist like Alicia Keys is from. Does it matter? No. She makes hits. Some of these idiots on this site think Kanye West and Common are from New York, lol .. It aint always about where you're from. It's about good music. Up and coming artists use the geography thing as a gimmick when their trying to break through. "We do it like this out here. We aint gettin no shine out here. We dress like this, we dance like this, we do this with our cars out here." It's all a gimmick until you break through with a hit record.

last word, you right about the fans my dude, e'thing you said 'bout the fans is true i aint even gonna lie, but as far as hit records go, marketing makes hit records, unfortanantly quality doesn't, i.e. laffy taffy, juviniles 'ha', and most of the shit that comes out of houston. They force feed the public till it catches on. I believe that you been doin this for a while cuz, you type like a somewhat inteligant dude, so you should no what payola is. If somebody was putin the money up alot off bay area artsist, that make quality music, would be more succesful.

Yea, I'm hip to payola.

The crazy thing about Laffy Taffy is that .. (I can't believe I'm saying this) .. People LIKE this song. This isn't the best example of a song being force fed to the public by a big label. 'Ha' isn't either because people genuinely liked this song when it came out because it was so different than what was out prior to it. In this case Juvi's geographical situation helped him because he didn't sound like anybody else that was out.

There are songs out there though that get force fed to the public, I won't debate that but you can't use that as an excuse for the bay not being where everyone around here wants it to be.

I aint gonna keep arguin cuz you a level headed nigg......whatever you are, lets just agree to disagree, but dont you think that people would like artist like the jacka who is just as introspective as nas, and songs like super hyphe that imo are better than aanything that comes out of houston's mainstream, if they were as accesable as their comercial counterparts.

p.s. respect

I don't look at it as arguin, man. We need more discussions like this one on this board.

Comparing Jacka to Nas? I see what you're getting at though. It's basically going to boil down to a major taking a chance on a Bay Artist to get him that exposure to the rest of the country. The labels have to be careful because they can't base who they may sign on sales figures cause cats don't do big numbers out here.

I'm guessing there are discussions about Keak in major label offices right now (I'm only guessing). I can see it now ...

Entry level A&R - This is that new shit right here! That Keak!
Head of A&R - What .. what is he saying?
Entry level A&R - That's the whole thing man! You can't understand every word. It's like a guessing game. If all else fails make up your own shit. That's my word!
Head of A&R - But ... what is he saying?
Entry level A&R - Yadidamean!?? Y'knowhatI'msayin?
Head of A&R - No. No I don't ... I wish someone would tell me what he's saying, because that beat is fresh! Would someone PLEASE ... PLEASE give me a lyric sheet or something!?!? I want to sign this guy but I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HE'S SAYING!!!!

We just have to wait and see what happens.
