his contribution to rap/hip hop was major. I dont think it would be what it is today if it werent for him bringing it to late night TV.

Anyone have any youtube videos of performances from Arsenio?

Him, Doctor Dre and Ed Lover, Julio G, and some of the others that were the first to really put artists out there and give hip hop the spot to shine. I would definitely say so.
