I think this cat is over hyped and will be kolb 2.0. With that said the seahawks needed a QB bad and they went out and got one. Also i think the contract is fairly decent and if he fails he wont set the seahawks back to bad since the deal wasn't for a ridiculous amount of money.

I'm happy about it. Seattle needed to do something at QB obviously and they weren't going to get someone ready to start in the draft. With Flynn it's a bit of a gamble but at least u know he's ready to start and from what he showed he looked damn good. I'd still draft a QB maybe 2nd or 3rd rd just in case

Not a lot to judge Flynn on, NFL wise, but the Seahawks didn't throw a truckload of money at him like AZ did for Kolb. He might be good, but The Niner fan in me is hoping not. LOL

Hawks will be good next season, IMO. The NFC West is shaping up to be not so shitty anymore.

*shrugs*

Im not getting my hopes up. For all we know, FLynn is the 2nd coming of Kolb.
He could be but what other option is there? Sign someone at #14 or whatever it is and have Jackson start for 1-2 years until that person is ready? Tim Tebow? Try to snag Alex Smith??

For the amount of money I think its a great move. Beats the alternatives imo.

I basically gives us another option, someone to push Tjax. But i would never draft a QB in the first round. We should draft in the 3rd+ and get a project, someone who can hold a clip board for a few years. We NEED to draft defense with that 12th overall pick. DE or bust.

Im intrigued by our 3rd QB, Josh Portis. I like to see how he is developing at this level.

so i puko you would have rather we not picked up matt flynn and tried to draft kirk cousins in the 3rd round instead? then have josh portis, tavaris jackson, and kirk cousins competing for the QB position?

id rather gamble on flynn and tavaris lol. i think it was a great decision by carroll and schneider. i think we kinda knew flynn was going to land here anyway cause of shneider. im glad the manning fiasco kinda gained everybodys attention and slowed down the process and let us nab up flynn in a great deal

also carroll said in a recent press conference, discussing the signing flynn mind you, that theyre always going to be looking for a quarterback and they plan to draft a QB, so maybe theyll end up picking up cousins too lol

Omiyale agrees with Seahawks
By Clare Farnsworth
Posted 7 hours ago

Frank Omiyale visited the Seahawks earlier this month after being released by the Bears in a salary cap move, and Wednesday the versatile offensive lineman agreed to continue his career in Seattle.

He is versatile. He is familiar with the zone-blocking scheme installed last year by Tom Cable. He was available.

Now, Frank Omiyale has agreed to terms to join the Seahawks, it was announced Wednesday.

Omiyale, 29, started 31 games the past three seasons for the Chicago Bears, but was released March 1 in a move to free space under the salary cap. That allowed him to visit Virginia Mason Athletic Center and take a physical on March 5, nine days before the free agency period began.

The 6-foot-4, 315-pound Omiyale entered the NFL in 2005 as a fifth-round draft choice of the Atlanta Falcons and also was with them in 2006 – when Cable, the Seahawks’ assistant head coach/offensive line coach, was the O-line coach with the Falcons. Omiyale then spent the 2007 and 2008 seasons with the Carolina Panthers before signing with the Bears as an unrestricted free agent in 2009.

It was his size, experience, versatility and familiarity with the offensive scheme that made Omiyale attractive to the Seahawks – who have released linemen Robert Gallery and Jarriel King in the past week.

While with the Bears, Omiyale started at left tackle, left guard and right tackle, and was the starting left tackle in 2010 when Chicago made a run to the NFC Championship game.

“Cuts are never easy, but are part of the evaluation process,” Bears general manager Phil Emery said when Omiyale was released. “We appreciate all that Frank gave the Bears organization, on and off the field, during his time in Chicago.”

With the Seahawks, Omiyale joins an offensive line group that saw three starters end the 2011 season on injured reserve – left tackle Russell Okung, right guard John Moffitt and right tackle James Carpenter. After that trio was lost for the season, Paul McQuistan (right guard and left tackle) and Breno Giacomini (right tackle) stepped in and played well. Each was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent, but both have agreed to re-sign with the team.

The Scouts Inc. breakdown on Omiyale entering the 2011 season included the following: “Omiyale is big, strong lineman with good short-area quickness and agility. He is a good knee-bender who can roll his hips to unload and leverage run blocks. He has a quick kick step to get out and pick up speed rushers on the edge.”

Now, he’ll be bringing all that – as well as some needed depth and versatility – to the Seahawks.

Flynn IMO got the arms and the smarts to be a great QB. i dont see him turning into another Kolb where from the jump i knew he'd be shit. i mean he fucking broke records that one game he played and he played a playoff team in the lions that were trying superhard not to face the saints and flynn still smashed them. i also remember watching the game 2 years ago against the pats and i was shocked at how comfortable and good he looked out there. seahawks team is getting pretty stacked secretly, i see them making some noise this year.

Flynn, Jones, Robinson signed

Matt Flynn, Jason Jones and Michael Robinson have officially signed with the Seahawks, as the club now has the contracts that these players agreed to last week and over the weekend.

Flynn, a backup quarterback from the Packers, agreed to terms on Sunday and will compete for the Seahawks’ starting job with Tarvaris Jackson. Jones, a defensive lineman who played the past four seasons with the Titans, agreed to terms on Saturday and will help provide the inside pass rush that coach Pete Carroll was seeking to add to the defense. Robinson, a Pro Bowl fullback, agreed to terms with the Seahawks on Friday.
The club also has retained four other players: running back Marshawn Lynch, offensive linemen Breno Giacomini and Paul McQuistan and linebacker Heath Farwell.
It’s a mix of “keeping our own” and adding to the competition with others that Carroll and general manager John Schneider established as their preferred approach entering the free agency period.
“Free agency for us was to get our own guys – that was the start of it,” Carroll said. “The fact that we were able to do that with Marshawn and come back with Red, Mike Robinson and on down the line, this has been really important to us.”

That other free agent

The Seahawks got agreements from two free agents over the weekend – quarterback Matt Flynn, who got most of the attention; and defensive tackle Jason Jones.
But the Seahawks have plans for Jones, who spent the past four seasons with the Titans and agreed to terms with the Seattle on Saturday.
“This is an exciting acquisition for us,” coach Pete Carroll said today, during a conference call interview to discuss Flynn. “We really have needed since the day we got here an inside pass-rush ability. Jason has unusual quickness for a long, tall guy and has a good knack for rushing inside.”
The 6-foot-5, 276-pound Jones registered 15.5 sacks and forced seven fumbles for Titans, but moved to end last season after playing tackle in his first three seasons. He will play some situational end for the Seahawks, but Carroll envisions him making the biggest impact at tackle.
“We’re hoping that we can really feature him in all of our nickel package stuff and also fit him in to other situations that will suit him,” Carroll said. “He’s got big-play ability in him. He attacks the football really well. He forces fumbles. He knocks down passes. And he’s got an activity about him that we think really cam help us and enhance our pass rush that needs to continue to grow.”
The Seahawks had 33 sacks last season, but 11 came from “Leo” end Chris Clemons. The rest of the linemen combined for 10 sacks, and the tackles had four.
“This is a big area for us to improve in and Jason will help us,” Carroll said.

Why not? At this moment in time, its all 100% gamble...so yes. I cant tell the future.

Im not AGAINST the Flynn move, im just not "wowed" by it. Its a "whatever" move at this moment in time, due to the fact that Flynn has what, 2 starts under his belt playing on a loaded team? We know as much about him in the long run as we do with any QB in the draft that will be a) cheaper and b) younger.

They will end up drafting a QB, and Tjax WILL be gone next year...book it.
