What difference does it make how many people go the game? What kinda fairweather fan nonsense is that? Attendance has been down at the A's the last 12 years, regardless of how they play, and part of that has to do with the inevitability of the team moving...so what does the attendance have to do with anything brug-goon? The Giants only sell tickets because people want to come see the fancy new stadium. The G-men are in 2nd place, and the A's are tied for first, so apparantly that attendance is really helping with the wins, huh bruh?
I don't understand how citing attendance figures is fair weather fan nonsense. The poster claimed Giants fans are just yuppies. I'm saying there's yuppies in the expensive seats at ATT Park just like there are everywhere else. The majority of Giants fans have loyalty to their team and know the game of baseball. The bleachers and cheap seats are always just as packed as the expensive seats. I'm saying if your a Padres fan or an A's fan an your taking a shot at Giants fans calling them fair weather or yuppies, you should get your ass out from behind that computer screen and go see your team play live. There's no excuse for WNBA teams and AAA farm affiliates to outsell a professional baseball team no matter the inevitability of a team moving, economic downturn, or whatever the excuse of the day is and that it all.

The "cheap" seats at AT&T are always packed because its a new stadium. As soon as the A's move to a brand new facility theyll sell a ton more seats every season too, for awhile. Its not an excuse when its a valid reason, SF is a bigger city and more financially viable fans to be attending games. The team moving, a bad economy, and the most of their fan base not being in immediate driving distance are reasons, not excuses...but hey maybe you can explain baseball too me, and why the Giants have double the payroll the A's and are in 2nd and the A's are tied for first, if I may be short, and lets take a time out and count all the Giants WS trophies...

Yeah, that one, historically have been bad...Aside from from the Cardinals none of those teams are comparative to the elite teams from, say, the AL east...but thats neither here nor there, the NL west is the worst, and has been...your division sucks when a near .500 record gets you into the playoffs. Theyre competetive with eachother, if you want to call it that. And how are you defining success? Because I define success as winning a world series, and none of the NL teams you mentioned except the Cards and the Astros have gotten to a world series in the last decade, and that Astros team was as assembled as much as any Yankees team.

SO if three teams in one division win 90 games, but only one seems to get to the WS, are the other two teams bad? You're right in that your measure for "success" is a bit flawed. When you are in a competitive division, you're gonna have very little parity.

One also has to look at how they play OUTSIDE the division. If a team is dominant in the division but terrible when facing the rest of the league, then sure...that would indicate a possibility of a CRAPPY division.

^^^Id like to see these WNBA attendance rates that ur talking about.
http://womensbasketballonline.com/wnba/attendance/sbsatten.pdf

Two teams in 2009 averaged over 10,000 fans.

http://espn.go.com/mlb/attendance

Here they put the A's at 16,000 which I highly doubt.

Here is an article written May 5, 2010 by the SF Chronicle claiming announced attendance at 8,900:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/05/05/MNNS1D9GQU.DTL

Here is the quote that their farm affiliate outsold them:

The A's failed to sell out Opening Night despite having the smallest capacity - 35,067 - in the majors. On April 16, they were outdrawn by their top minor-league team, the Sacramento River Cats, 14,014 to 12,225.

Here is a quote that they have 9,000 $2 seats and can't bring people into the stadium:

Wolff added, "This idea we're trying to discourage people from coming is a bunch of crap. Every Wednesday, we have almost 9,000 $2 tickets. ... It should be embarrassing to all of us that we can't draw people at $2."

My point is merely this: yes there are Giants yuppies fans, but we sell out our bleachers and uppers too....

The biggest reason no one goes to the A's games is cuz of the stadium, plain and simple. Also, a big part is who's on the team. A lotta Giants fans (if you wanna call them that) only went to the games cuz of Barry. Of course I loved seeing Barry bat, but the rest of the 2002 team was dope too. And the A's may have 9,000 $2 tickets but they're sold out of those every game, which is sad because im sure its all scalpers that get those. The A's game I went to last tuesday had the lowest attendance in 5 years, it came in under 8,000 people.

Attendance doesnt mean shit when it comes to how good a team is. Look at the Florida Marlins.

lol @ those WNBA attendance rates. 2 teams, the top 2, averaged over 10,000. The A's actually do average around 16,000 because of the more popular away teams, and promotions. Look at the rest of those attendance rates though, they average a year what the A's did in their worst day.

On top of it, the WNBA gives away (comps) a decent percentage of its championship series tickets, and still cant get people to come.

And the Sacramento rivercats a top level minor league team in the same area with an NBA team. They are also consistently one of the best minor league teams in the country.

WTF is all this nonsense bashing giants fans about. We are some of the most loyal fans out there. And we do go all in on every other team. I lose my voice every game from talking shit. Fuck any other team.

getting heckled while your team is winning is fun.

im at petco a couple games every homestand and will be there next week when the giants are in town. yuppie giants fans are our favorite to heckle

funny story...we went to a few spring training games this year...one against the giants (which we won something like 7-0)..and my buddy heckled first basemen aubrey huff the entire game...literally the ENTIRE game. small ballpark so half the crowd was loving it and started joining in....classic

with all that said...i dont really hate the giants. love bochy and have actually rooted for them on occasion

dodgers though...FUCK THEM!

Biggest reason would be SF is a bigger media market, 2nd biggest would be the stadium they play in.

Also, dont forget the only reason the WNBA can stay afloat is because its supported by the NBA.
