^^so are you trying to say that Warner isn't one of the labels that runs the industry?^^
No, but is Warner going to push a whole album that's Hyphy? WC was on Def Jam, WC is sick, but Def Jam didn't push him 'cause he didn't fit the profile of the label. Warner might sign an artist from the bay, but they're going to dictate what goes on the album and what doesn't. That's how it works.

Some of you up and comers/fans that are talking all "industry" need to do your research as to the state of the industry right now.

The debate about whether Hyphy is the next thing or not is irrelevant because the industry is in such turmoil, it's not in a position to push a new "movement" (ie, Hyphy). Especially one that can produce hit records...

HYPHY MOVEMENT*** its a movement, movement meaning people get behind it and support it..So you telling me not to holla at Traxamillion for hot beat cuzz I didn't start the movement? Get out of here wit that hate talk, myself I decided to fuck wit trax cuzz he makes hot tracks not cuzz Im on the Band wagon,I had the money,I needed a party track, why not? **MAJOR LABELS ARE looking at artist Like Ya Boy turned down a Deal from Warner...and Clyde Carson wit Aftermath, mistah Fab with Alantic,Deals dont happen over night if that be the case every rappre would have one., just wait for these dudes to flop then say MAJOR LABELS aint looking at us, Yeah 40 just went gold but keep in mind eastcoast already didnt like 40 in the first place, and going gold nowdays with rippin going on iz a big Deal..All im saying 4,5 years ago yall was complaining bout not seeing the bay on tv, not hearing the bay on the radio, but you want this HYPHY thing to stop, we cant stop other artists from jumping on the bandwagon, you going to have wanna bees anyways, hop on myspace and listen to some of the Jeezy, swiss beats, dipset wanna bees..you cant stop that..Harsh reality is that you do have to have a party song on your album if you want to get heard outside the ghetto..

IF YOU DONT WANT TO HEAR HYPHY THEN, GO ON EBAY AND BUY ALL THE OLD BAY CLASSICS, CUZZ THIS SHIT AINT GOING TO STOP, AND NO PUNK BEHIND A COMPUTER COULD STOP THIS SHIT, GUESS YOU BETTER STOP LISTENING TO BAY SHIT CUZZ EVERY ALBUM COMING RIGHT NOW GOING TO HAVE A HYPHY TRACK..

IZ YOU WITH THE MOVEMENT, OR ARE YOU AGAINST IT?

IMA LEAVE IT AT THAT
Hate talk? Naw, I'm no hater...I'm just tellin' it how it is. There's nothin' wrong with Trax, dude has knocks and I'm even a fan. When it comes down to it, there's a difference between a Typical Hyphy track, and a party track. It's all in what the ARTIST says over the beat. I'm not against any movement, I've already stated I'm against those that hop on bandwagons. I like 40, I like Quinn, I like Fab...but I don't like 99 rappers sayin' the same shit.

To put it how I think it, I'm all FOR the movement, but I'm not WITH it, feel me? It's not my style of music. I mean shit, Remy is producing the majority of my next album, he has a lot of slappers that could be used for Hyphy tracks, but I'm puttin' my own spin on it.

Major labels might be lookin' at cats like YA BOY...Ya Boy is a hard hitter...Ya Boy has some hard fuckin lyrics. You don't see Ya Boy with a Thizz face in every picture, you don't hear crazy Hyphy shit from Ya Boy...feel me?

I guarantee you though, that if the records on a major sounded the same as they do HERE, the label will be sending the artist BACK to the studio to make different shit. Like I said, labels dictate what goes out and what doesn't. So they're going to grab an artist who has a nice following, and they're going to spin their shit to cater to more listeners, and THEN put it out. Cats like Lil Jon can do Crunk shit all the time, 'cause Lil Jon runs his own show. If Warner, or Interscope, or Aftermath picks up one of these artists, they put out what the label tells them to put out. Period! If you don't THINK that's how the industry works, do your homework. It's always best to know the business before you make the music...if you plan on taking it to a higher level.

I've sat down in front of A&R's from Def Jam, Interscope, Universal and Aftermath. I think I know what they're looking for.

damn, yall catch everything, @mr pete you are right this hip hop is in trouble but its still selling, and as long it selling you going to have rap...

The industry is like on big Rich cult, you have to know somebody to get in, or you have prove yourself to get in (get a buzz, sell enough records)..

and thats the Truth**

That's what I'm doin'. No hate here, do what you do. Just speakin' my opinion, fam. I sat down with A&R's with my group. They wanted us to make club shit, and we told 'em that isn't what we're tryin' to do. So, they told us best of luck and they hoped to hear more from us at a later time.

NOBODY is going to push a hyphy album if the region that it comes from can't even support it by buying records. Why would a major label want to put money behind an artist that can't sell records in their own region, it just doesn't make any sense. The number one selling independent artist out here sold around 20,000 records last year...that would be lucky to crack the top ten in other regions. The thing about bay music is that everyone is out for themself, and don't see that strength is in numbers. I'll use Houston as an example. When Houston started to blow up this last time, they had everyone rally behind their new artists that were making the most noise. I guarantee that half of the people who heard "Still Tippin" didn't even know who's song it was. And then when you see the video, you see that they got the whole city, the rap veterans, and ONE label that is the focus.

Now imagine if you had Clyde Carson, Ya Boy and FAB(and I'm using these three, because right now, they are arguably the most anticipated projects from rap fans in the bay)do a song together with the stamp/seal of approval from 40 and Short. It would bring someone new to the table that people hadn't seen, but also two familiar faces in the background. 40 and Short would be seen as the "Godfathers" of the bay in a way that Bun B and Scarface are to Houston and they would still get their love. But this would also open the doors to artists like Quinn, Jacka, Turf Talk and the many others that are making noise.

Who ever thought that you would hear niggaz in the bay talking about what the industry/majors are looking for? If there is anything the bay is supposed to be about it is originality/uniqueness and not conforming to what outsiders want. The hyphy movement was supposed to open doors for the whole bay, which HAD hella different styles and sounds and rappers that were different from each other. What we have now is something like the trend that killed the last good run we had, with niggaz overdoing compilations, instead everybody got the new hyphy mixtape.

From what I see, the music industry as we know it will not exsist long after may. The new deal between EMI and Apple will result in an explosion of online sales and a big decline in CD sales. Every other label will follow soon enough. So I ask why the fuck is everybody suckin the majors dick for what soon will be all digital music distribution? Wake up, independents and majors will soon be very close to being on the same level. The only difference will be the marketing budgets, but if you trip on the major the artists pays for that shit anyway. You niggaz better step your stage show u cause that will always be the best way to get ya bread

it's another deal that EMI is about to pull off in September that is gonna shake up the music industry. It's all about that long term money and EMI isn't gonna be controlling as much as they do now....and i'll leave it at that.

What I'm trying to say is that before long none of these labels will be controlling as much as the do now. So why now are bay artist more than ever willing to bow to the majors?
