Kansas City Monarchs .. negro league baseball
Kansas City Royals...

yeah, he only live in kc for like 10 years, but we can still claim he is a kc boy, lol. i remember playing baseball against back in high school. he still has a h ouse out in blue springs.

I always liked Erstad...great addition. I think he was from North Dakota, played his college ball at Lincoln though.

First, the Royals are simply a Minor League team stuck in the Major League. Seriously, they gets these young cats and develope them into 'Star Material', by that time those players think they deserve more money, and the Royals just won't give out enough money. So basically, the Royals are just a developement team for the rest of the league. Hell, they have what, a 50-60mil cap? The Yanks will drop TWICE that one ONE player.

As for the name of teams and such, that Swick brought up. Eer, wasn't the Kings in the NBA, moved to Sacramento in '85 to become the Sacramento Kings? Also, what about the Attack, Wizards, or the Brigade, Explorers (Tennis). The baseball team here before the 70s was the Athletics, before they moved to Oakland. Comets? Outlaws?

people always thought the Royals came from the British monarchy or some shit. It comes from a huge rodeo/livestock tournament held in Kansas City, called the American Royal Livestock Show. i think thats actually kinda cool. as for the other names, i dunno.
