"Relating" to Hip-Hop music.

see the term... "relate" popping up around alot

someone explain it to me. you "relate" to the music? when Jay is talking about going OT in a rental car you relate to that? Either we have a bunch of internet gangstas on here or you cant understand what "relating" to music really is.

I just bring this up because when Eminem or Mos Def or any other "non-gangsta" rapper gets brought up people dont like them because they can't "relate" to them.

It's funny to me. Explain to me how you relate to your favorite artists

well my homie made a track that said "dont wanna dissmiss you as a bitch, you really trippin though" i feel like that alot, tryin not to just see all these females as bitchs, but they be doin crazy shit, i can relate to this. pretty much any track bout losin people i can relate to, i see that shit so much here, cause last year alone i know like 5 people that died. trife gots a track, and he describes a cat he sees that he dont want to bang, but he tellin how fools all set in his ways, i have endless homies like this, that i want to be makin better decisions. so i relate to this. talib kweli says "i wanna right the songs that write the wrongs" i can relate to this, cause i rap myself, im gettin a new mic so i can get some audio, and all i wanna accomplish is bein real on the lyrical tip, not talkin all ganged out, just adressin whats fake, and talkin bout things i see that people can relate to, ya know, things that aint right, i can go on for days about this

its as simple as being able to identify things that apply to your real life situation. i dont have a escalade on 30's and a platinum necklace down to my balls,so of course i am not going to be able to relate cause i dont know what it feels like to have that much money or those things. so i am going to relate to things that have to do with the daily grind,working 5 days a week,having trouble with women. all the things that an average person goes through.
