People need to stop fantasizing about the bay blowing up because NO REGION in the game is ever gonna blow up the way LA did in the early 90's, the South did in 97-98, etc. The bottom line is, MTV, BET and Clear Channel have chopped the number of big time rappers in half by shortening their playlists. On a good day you will hear 12 different rappers on the radio or on MTV. Most of these slots are already filled. For the bay area to seriously blow up all these slots would have to be filled with bay area artists, and thats not gonna happen because 1. New York , LA and other regions will continue to produce talent 2. New York and down south will continue to support their own artists and 3. THERE JUST AINT 12 GOOD BAY AREA ARTISTS! I mean, there are artists who COULD BE good but continue to put out shotty ass material. "A Good Name is Better than Gold if your name hold weight then you in control..."-San Quinn. Most "Golden Era" bay rappers have tarnished their dynasty by putting out shotty ass shit.
Another thing...the bay aint United...too many people trying to be leaders and not enough people trying to follow. People need to step back and accept the fact that they aren't CEOs and swollow their pride and admit the bay would be better off if all the cats stuck with one label...Could you image Balance, Locksmith, Zacwood, San Quinn, Fully Loaded, Willie Henn, The Riddla, Mr. Kee, Louie Loc, Mac Mall, E-40 etc. ALL ON ONE LABEL. Then the bay could pull its resources and heavily promote a few albums and take those profits and help promote other artists, but its never gonna happen because everyone has an ego the size of a fuckin Costco, or else plain and simple they DONT WANT to blow up....
Another problem is with the fans...first of all theres plenty of fellas in the yay that know about bay rap but females are more than half of MTV/Radio audience and as long as bay rap is all about bang bang and disrespecting women then you arent gonna see it happen. Plus, a lot of fans sit their and still think in their head "so and so is still gonna be able to release a good CD even though they are 40 years old, with a no name label with no producers and havent released a CD in 7 years...People need to get with the time. 95% of the artists from the early to mid 90's are WASHED UP! THEY SUCK NOW! People need to get used to the new bay sound...I swear to god people sit on this fuckin piece of shit we call a computer and bitch about how the bay is washed up and their only examples are artists that were at their peak in 1995...if they took some time to check out new artists like the Mobfigaz, Wax, Fully Loaded, Riddla, Cosmo, Balance and his crew they would think differently. Most people didnt even pay any attention when Balance got on the wake up show and when Watchout Now! got released, EVEN THOUGH THEY COULD HEAR THE WHOLE ALBUM AT NORTHERN-RIDAZ.COM and REALIZE ITS FIRE! But no...it took Locksmith nearly winning a record deal on MTV to stir some shit up...
Right now in my opinion they only people who even have a chance to blow is the Done Deal camp, the MobFigaz, Yukmouth and Mac Mall, and Balance/Locksmith/Zacwood. Done Deal because they are strong all around every rapper in the fam spits flames and the production is excellent. The Mobfigaz got one SOLID producer (Roblo), five spitters and their own unique but 2paceske style. Yukmouth because no one can deny he has talant he has rhymes for days he can clown and battle and also spit radio friendly material and he made some great production hookups on UGA. Mac Mall because he has great charisma he's very intellegent and understands their is more going on in the world than what goes down in Crestside Vallejo and he got Femi. Balance and his crew cause they can spit radio friendly they got their name out their with MTV and Rick Rock is doin their beats. THATS IT! I hate to put down E-40 but what is he 36 years old all his videos are the same he looks uncomfortable dancing and overall IMO he isnt marketable anymore. I love him and will continue to support his shit but his chances of poppin up on MTV are slim.
Just my 2cents.
