As personnel departments around the NFL huddle up to discuss player evaluations that will help them stack and finalize their draft boards, a trade discussion is going on that could make things interesting for the Oakland Raiders, who hold the No. 1 overall pick.

Backup quarterback Josh McCown has indicated to the Detroit Lions his interest in playing elsewhere in 2007, and Oakland could be a possible destination for the five-year veteran. McCown signed with Detroit as an unrestricted free agent prior to last season with the understanding he would compete with Jon Kitna for the starting job, but he never got that opportunity as offensive coordinator Mike Martz named Kitna the starter before training camp began. McCown is a good overall athlete who has ideal size and strength for the position. He has a strong arm and has shown the ability to make all throws in the passing game during his career. He has the feet to move around in the pocket, and can also attack the edges of the pocket to put pressure on opposing defenses. Despite his physical tools, though, McCown has been somewhat of a streaky player due to his inconsistent decision-making. Still, he is a young player with enough upside to be a starter in the right system.
