Man it pained me to type that.

Seriously, obviously Raiders are in best shape right here right now...But I am hearing rumors Cable may not be back???? If that is true how Raider fans can you continue to support the team. And by that I mean support the owner, because any support of team is a support of the ownership.

Finally have a coach in place that can get the most out of what he has and that may not be enough? I feel for you y'all really I DO!

If Cable dont come bacc its a fuccin joke.....I'm not a huge fan of him as a coach but he's gotten the job done and got the most out of the talent that he has.....
exactly. i dont think there are but 1 or 2 other people in the world who could have did what he did these past 2 seasons in getting them to where they are now, and yet he may be gone. I think Al is truly off his rocker.

where did you hear the Cable man might not be back? we need sourcesss

if he isn't offered an extension its an absolute travesty. I mean as long as Cable wants to be the head coach of the Raiders...he should be. What was the stretch again guys, like 5 years without an AFC West win? and now we swept it...Tom Cable is THE guy..and the only guy

We are the best team right now, we didn't start out that way which is why we are not in the post season, it took us awhile to get our rhythm going and we did finish off strong, major props Scary.

I am pissed that this is even being brought up, I always stated that we needed stability and by firing coaches year in and year out was only gonna keep us at the bottom, we still need to re-sign seymour as well as some other players and a move like this makes it more unlikely

Tom Cable is unlikely to return as the Oakland Raiders' head coach in 2011, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Oakland has to decide whether to exercise the option on Cable's contract by Jan. 18.

The Raiders finished 8-8 this season despite being undefeated in the AFC West. It was their first unblemished mark in the division since 1976, but Oakland has lost four of six since a three-game winning streak put it on the cusp of the playoff picture in Week 10.

AFC West blog
ESPN.com's Bill Williamson writes about all things AFC West in his division blog.

• Blog network: NFL Nation

The Raiders are the first team since the 1970 merger to go unbeaten in the division and not make the playoffs.

"We are disappointed because we are not going to the playoffs, but at the same time we stuck to the goal and stuck to the plan as we have done very week, and we got our eighth win," Cable said after the Raiders beat the Chiefs 31-10 to close out their season. "I'm very happy about that."

Asked if he thinks he's coming back, Cable did answer directly.

"We're not losers anymore. We're 8 and 8," he said. "That's not what we wanted. We wanted to be a playoff team. We came here to get the sixth win, which means we went 6-0 in the division and most importantly, we are done with that losing. We are not losers anymore."

The Raiders are 17-27 since Cable became head coach, but posted their best record since 2002 in 2010-11, and this season was the first time since '02, when Oakland went to the Super Bowl, that it didn't lose at least 11 games.

Perhaps part of the problem has been Cable's wavering on the Raiders' starting quarterback. After starting the season with Jason Campbell at the helm, Cable switched to Bruce Gradkowski when Campbell struggled. After Gradkowski separated his shoulder, Cable turned back to Campbell but insisted Gradkowski was still the starter. While Campbell was under center during the Raiders' three-game midseason win streak, Cable fluctuated between both quarterbacks throughout the second half of the year until Gradkowski reinjured his shoulder and was placed on injured reserve.

Yahoo! Sports reported on Dec. 12 that Cable was upset when Hue Jackson was hired as the Raiders' offensive coordinator and that Jackson's associates are pushing him to find another job.

Jackson denied there was a rift when asked about the story days later.

"I don't know where all that stuff comes from," Jackson said. "We all here have a pretty good working relationship. I have known Tom here longer than probably anybody that's on this staff, other than Mike Waufle because I worked with those guys before. I was a little surprised by it. There's no truth to it."

Cable took over as the interim coach for Lane Kiffin four games into the 2008 season and was given the permanent job in Feb. 2009.

Oakland has had five coaches since 2003.

Information from ESPN.com's Bill Williamson and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

They may need to promote Hue Jackson to Asst. Head Coach to keep him around. If one had to go between the two, I would rather keep Hue based on the offensive output this year. If I had a say, I would keep everything just as it is and add some more players. Hopefully the Al, the players and coaches realize we are on to something if we can keep building....

well said, the Raiders didnt find a real identity until like week 7. By mollywhopping the team that won the division at there home shows the Raiders are in the best shape going into next season. I think the Chargers are on the decline as well cuz they no longer will be able to afford all there key players.

I dont see Cable staying being that important at the moment cuz we already found the formula to success, hopefully could land a coach like Harbaugh (not holding my breath) that wouldnt take no shit from Al Davis cuz thats basically what Cable was, wasn't necessary a great coach or anything
