BENICIA - A food truck caught on fire Monday afternoon after a failed jump start attempt, Benicia firefighters said.
At about 3:45 p.m. the Benicia Fire Department responded to a report of a one-alarm fire at the Liquor Warehouse, 458 Military East. However, upon arrival they discovered the fire to be engulfing a Taco Jalisco food truck in the store's parking lot.
The fire was put out in less than five minutes, Benicia Fire Chief Steve Vucurevich said.
Three men were minding the truck at that time, including one who was cooking an order.
"I don't know what happened. I was cooking, and then I saw the fire and ran out," Julio Cesar Macias said.
Macias was cooking Ben Hirsch's order. Hirsch said he reported the fire right away when he saw it.
Vucurevich said someone was trying to jump start the truck while pouring fuel into the carburetor, which ignited the fire from a spark.
The employees said they tried to put the fire out with an extinguisher, but it was not enough. No injuries were reported.
As for the food, "I don't think I'm going to see those tacos," Hirsch said.
