Question for the collectors......

How do you go about deciding what albums to add to your collection? Do you have certain criterias like the region/area the artist is from, if the album is good or not, the year in which it was released, etc., or do you have other criterias that you base your collection on?

For me, I collect mainly Bay Area albums but I will buy anything that is good. Maybe I wouldn't spend as much on it as I would a good album that's from the Bay but nonetheless I would still try to own it. Let's hear some thoughts

I COLLECT ANY THANG THAT'S GOOD, BUT THEY MUST HAVE A WEST COAST FEEL TO IT, BEATS N RHYMES, I PERFER OLDER ALBUMS, I HAVE A PASISON FOR GHETTO LOW-BUDGET ALBUM COVERS, I GUESS I STARTED WITH 1 AREA THEN I MOVE ON TO THE NEXT, I STARTED WITH SOUTH CALI ALBUMS LIKE (CMW...MC EIHT...MC REN) WENT TO THE BAY AND STARTED COLLECTING (E-40'S..THE CLICC..TOO-SHORT), THEN WENT TO SAC-TOWN ( LUNI COLEONE...HOLLOW TIP..MIC-C)...DENVER (NYKE LOC)....TO KANSAS CITY (FAT TONE...RICH...RUSH). I GUESS I MOVE FROM CITY-2-CITY. REGION-2- REGION.

yeah i got all sorts of shit.. old school, recent shit, west, east...

When I'm thinkin by region, i'm thinkin of releases that involve my favorite producers, rappers.. usually in their day.. Or maybe they been knockin throughout so I'll pick up new shit too, usually the ones that were done locally and are a pain in the neck to find, but very rarely dissapointed when ya listen in.

i try to collect every album an indie lable dropped or an artist dropped. like i almost got all the no limits. almost got all the death rows. i got all the prophet ent./hypnotize minds. all dj quiks. almost all bone thugs. i try to get as much northwest shit as i can. got all dru down albums. also like to get them rare albums too. still looking for several.

I dont care to get the best cds I want the rarest, a bunch of rare cds are really overated and weaks but I know I will get good money when I sell them. It aint that easy nowadays beacause Rapbay has reprinted a lot of shit.

I buy anything that isn't going to be a fashion show in my speakers. I listen to mainly west coast rap, whether it is rare or not. The albums that are tight get bumped over and over, and the ones that suck get pushed to the back of the closet.

I buy mostly older stuff (mid-90's preferrably). I go by the regionz, cd titles, covers, features............. I take a lot of risks on cds that I have never heard of and have made mostly good decisions on doing so
