how would a record company know who is really hot? most of dudes on the radio and the magazines bought their way on. do you rap? manage? just appreciate the music? trying to see where you coming from and what you got cracking. if you feel like you can contribute come on down, if you feel you can put something better together for the artists, then please do so. everyone wins. if you just knocking it because that is what random dudes on the net do then please continue. just clarify your position
Record companies know because of #1. Soundscan sales and #2 A& R Reps in many regions. I have rapped, have managed and also appreciate the music.

I'm just like you Doodlebug I'm not a performer, I'm a veteran in this here business and I was around when game was put down in the beginning. It's not a money issue for me, I'm a lyricist. I have written songs for some people in the business, rap and R&B included. In my spare time I do battle raps now and then. That;s where my recognition comes from. Ask about me, w c r y d a z .com, r a p m u s i c .com and elsewhere.

As I said I respect your hustle and if people are buying into it then congrats. But you do know that Jay Z did fly out to meet Lady Sovereign in Britain based on her buzz ? Dre signed Eminem based on a radio appearance, he didn't send Dre a demo, then they signed 50 Cent without him sending a demo. They came to him. If you're hot, the labels will come knocking that's the true shit. Ask JT how many labels he has turned down.
quit jawjacking. lady sovereign was known all accross england and had several singles on the national charts there. thats like saying the industry knows about keak. well keak sold thousands of records. the industry do not know about all the other talent out here. eminem's radio appearance was the wake up show. and he was on the wakeup show because the industry was already buzzing bout the white boy from detroit who was untouchable on the mic. and 50 already was coming off a major deal with columbia and then moved thousands of copies of his mxtapes. so if you can go out tomorrow and get on the wakeup show and have sway endorse you and then turn around and move 50 thousand mixtapes then you are right, YOU DO NOT NEED THIS. the rest of the bay does.

My point is that I'm not a "stage" rapper andI don't need your opportunity to rap in front of a no name representative of a mediocre has-been label to let me know I have what it takes. My question to you is are you a rapper or are you one of those dudes leeching off the skills of others ?

There are not many A&R reps based in the Bay but lots of them have been here including reps from Shady/Aftermath, Capitol, Jive and others.

The point on Lady Sovereign is that she did not send in a demo, 50 Cent did not mail Aftermath/Shady a demo, the seeked him out from the strength of his buzz which is my point. You make enough noise labels will come knocking. JT has had distribution through Navarre and Koch but believe me JT doesn't send demo's out either.

Proving my point further. Get known on your own and labels will come after you and mixtapes are about to be a thing of the past. Muthafuckas need to start using their own beats and their own talent and come out with some solid material. Mixtapes will sink the Bay just like compilations did back in the 90's.

Who does Ruff Ryders have that's moving units right now besides a few singles from Swizz Beats ?

Sony's crowning achievement is R&B chief not rap. Sony's label Columbia Records has Marc Anthony, Louis Armstrong, Tony Bennett, Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, Miles Davis, Destiny's Child, Dixie Chicks, Bob Dylan, Duke Ellington,Jagged Edge, Ricky Martin, John Mayer, Nas, Bruce Springsteen, Train...

Don't get me wrong the average artist would love to be signed period but if you gave dudes a list I doubt Ruff Ryders would be at the top of it. Like JT said I would rather get $8.00 off top than .34 a record.
