So, ya seen the images, right? (Yes, it does seem that we really small and isnignificant we are) And the question is, how come other planets that look nothing like ours? Look at saturn and jupiter, they're kinda similar, is it the land that all over? I mean, look at Earth, you can tell that there is land and water and clouds. We see and can tell there is life. But we cannot tell exactly what it is on other planets? Is it that NASA doesn't want to tell us shit? Let ya words be heard

IMO, Mars seems to be developing the life of its own like the Earth had been developed (or still in process of developing).

Oh yeah, and be sure to check out this site too - http://www.atlasoftheuniverse.com/

Mars is geologically dead, how can it support life?

Antares (α Scorpii / Alpha Scorpii) is the brightest star in the constellation Scorpius and one of the brightest stars in the nighttime sky. Along with Aldebaran, Spica, and Regulus it is one of the four brightest stars near the ecliptic. The similarly colored Aldebaran lies almost directly opposite Antares in the Zodiac.

Antares is a class M supergiant star, with a diameter of approximately 700 times solar. I.e., if in place of our sun, its outer surface would extend between the orbit of Mars and Jupiter. Antares is approximately 600 light years from our solar system. Visually, its luminosity is about 10,000 times that of the Sun but overall, taking into account that the star radiates a considerable part of its energy in the infrared part of the spectrum the luminosity equals roughly 65,000 times that of the Sun. The mass of the star is calculated to be 15 to 18 solar masses.[2] Its large size and relatively small mass give Antares a very low density.

The best time to view Antares is on or around May 31 of each year, when the star is at "opposition" to the Sun. At this time, Antares rises at dusk and sets at dawn, and is thus in view all night (this of course depends entirely on your own position on the globe). For approximately two to three weeks on either side of November 30, Antares is not visible at all, being lost in the Sun's glare; this period of invisibility is longer in the Northern Hemisphere than in the Southern Hemisphere, since the star's declination is significantly south of the ecliptic.

Comparison between the red supergiant Antares and the Sun. The black circle is the size of the orbit of Mars. Arcturus is also included in the picture for size comparison.

Did anyone catch the article on msn last night about our sun and how it has an impact on the color of our vegetaion? It kinda relates to this because they also talked about other planets and suns and how there vegetation would look different (if they had it)

SATURN, URANUS, AND NEPTUNE INCLUDING JUPITER ARE THE GAS GIANTS :)

EDIT: ACTUALLY THEY DONT CONSIDER PLUTO A PLANET NOMORE

"Pluto is not a planet," Brown said. "There are finally, officially, eight planets in the solar system."

Those arbitrary definitions are so stupid, what constitutes a planet? Pluto has a moon for Christ's (pbuh) sake.. You can just as easily call Mercury a non-planet if that's the case, it's roughly around the size of our moon, only significant difference between it and Pluto is that it's much much closer to the Sun (yea, Mercury is bigger, but it is still tiny).. Pluto is considered a "dwarf planet" now when there's no such thing, a planet is simply a celestial body that has enough sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome other celestial bodies so that it maintains equilibrium in the form of a spherical shape, and of course isn't a satellite. By definition there are actually 11 planets if you include back Pluto, and then Eris and Ceres. Scientific classifications are misleading at times, it leads people to assume that there's an actual science behind these distinctions when it is simply a matter of nomenclature..

nice pictures.

we spend billions on wars and happy meals and watching people catch a ball, but cant spare more money for things like oh....space exploration, physics research, stem cells to increase life expectancy. in one sense its pretty cool that on a global scale people really dont give a shit about existence and are content with the answer summoned up a few thousand years ago. in another sense, its ridiculous. pretty typical, afterall, even though people abandoned the idea that earth is the center of the universe, the notion that humans are central to all existence is alive and well. see i dont even dislike religion for the wars and ills its caused as much as i have disdain for the progress it fundamentally impedes.

"oh why does it always have to be about religion" you might say. well, because it pretty much is. Back to you Chuck.

do you have a link?

it sounds interesting

I expect that it will say how different wavelengths of light emitted from the star will direct evolution towards light collecting pigments best suited for that particular wavelength, but I would like to read more

SCIENTIST THINK (WELL A THEORY) THAT PLUTO WAS ONE OF NEPTUNES SATELLITES, THAT ESCAPED AS A RESULT OF A NEAR COLLISION WITH NEPTUNES MOON TRITON,THIS WOULD HELP EXPLAIN PLUTOS HIGHLY ECCENTRIC, TILTED ORBIT AND UNUSUAL TILT OF ITS ROTATIONAL AXIS, AS WELL AS TRITON'S BACKWARD ORBITAL MOTION. ACCORDING TO ANOTHER THEORY, PLUTO'S COMPOSITION AND ECCENTRIC ORBIT SUGGEST THAT IT IS RELATED TO A COMET.

Yea, the theory that Pluto was formerly a moon of Neptune (I think I heard Uranus also) was widely held as near true for a while... I've heard that suggested before a lot.. Because of its shape and size, Pluto is definitely not a comet though, which are related to asteroids, yet differentiated by the comet's famous tail, origins (asteroid belt vs. Oort cloud), and shape. What is of note though is that many Moons in our solar system are actually bigger than our own planet.. Titan of course, Europa, Ganymede, Callisto, Rhea, etc.. The only thing that effectively makes them moons are because they're satellites caught in the gravitational pull of a larger celestial body (that isn't the Sun). The earth would easily be downgraded to moon status if we were closer to Jupiter's gravitational influence..
