Small Plane Crash Near Highway 4 Kills Three

CONCORD -- A plane attempting to land at Buchanan Field Airport in Concord crashed into a big-rig on a frontage road near state Highway 4 and erupted in flames, killing three people aboard the aircraft according to California Highway Patrol Officer Scott Yox.
Yox said the plane was arriving from San Diego and making its second landing attempt and that there was low visibility in the area when the aircraft crashed into the center divide of eastbound state Highway 4.
According to eyewitnesses, the plane cartwheeled across the roadway and ended up on the right shoulder of state Highway 4, where it caught on fire, Yox said.
According to Yox, firefighters extinguished the flames and managed to remove a 10-year-old child and an adult from the wreckage.
All three adult passengers in the plane died and the child was taken to Children's Hospital in Oakland with critical injuries, Yox said.
Eastbound Highway 4 is closed between Interstate Highway 680 and Solano Avenue.
Yox said CHP is investigating the incident.
