The tribune today (August 2) has a complete list of al the 66 homicides so far. It includes their name, age, how they were killed and when and where and many of their pictures. The last one listed is July 29th and in the same paper it also says that since that 2 more people were killed bringing the total for this year to 68 and as I am sitting here writting this I am wondering if that is still even current cause that was yesterday.
Out of the 66 homicides 26 (39%) were 25 & under Although 2 still have no ID yet and so there age is unknown
and 52 (79%) were shot to death
In may 7 people were killed in a 4 day time span and the month of July had the most homicides at 15 for that month.
Jerry Brown said "not having a job is no exscuse for killing someone"
Police Chief Word said that in 1992 Oakland had 175 homicides and the unemployment rate was 10.2%---the same that it is now. In 1999 the homicide count was 60 and the unemployment rate was only 5.5%. MOntclair district and the hills in Oaklnd did not have not 1 homicide in that area, its all in the flatlands. Jerry Brown is such an incompetant piece of shit. This was my first year voting and I did not vote 4 him! I dont want him, and I wish people would learn and kick his ass out. But I guess all the white people up in the hills are happy things are fine 4 them they dont know these people dying or care. He wants to get 100 new officers for Oakland to solve the problem.
Anyways---if people are interested in addressing any of these issues ***KMEL's street soldiers will be broadcasting live from Castlemont High school in East Oakland from 8-11 pm August 11th. So young people can talk about their concerns and solutions.***
Also Project YES is working on the implementing a Teen Center right by Castlemont by 2004 or 2005. They want youth input on what the center should include and how it should be run. If you come 2 the meeting you automatically join the Youth Advisory Board (but you dont have 2) it is August 15th 5-7:30 pm at 1000 Broadway 500D (I gotta check on the suite # Tho)
Sorry all that was so long but I wanted 2 spread the word--please if you care whats happening out here come 2 one of these or do something positive in your own way. Cause if every1 who says that they cant make a difference just tries 2 in some little way, it really would make the biggest difference.
