Iranians worldwide have been protesting a new Hollywood blockbuster movie based on a graphic novel by Frank Miller which they say offers an "inaccurate and derogatory depiction of ancient Persians."

Over 6,200 Iranians have signed an online petition addressed to the producers of the film "300", criticizing them for what they say is a distortion of historical fact.

"The author Frank Miller and Warner Brothers Studios should understand that distorting historical data is unethical, and so is feeding ignorance to viewers and readers. Fantasy-like characters should not have names that are based on actual historical figures," the petition reads.

The signatories of the petition seem to agree that the film is an "outrage" and "a depiction of how movie studios and authors sacrifice historical accuracy for would-be profits."

Directed by Zach Snyder, "300" tells the story of 300 Spartans who fight the Iranian king Xerxes and his Persian army.

The petition reads that "Xerxes was one of the many revered and respected rulers of an ancient civilization, the vestiges of which last to this day."

The online petition to promote a boycott of the movie is available at: www.petitiononline.com/BTM3/petition.html

I'm not going to argue with y'all, but Imagine if a vastly larger and economically more powerful country (say china in 30 years) and its neighbors was threatening the US with nuclear war.

And then the number one movie in China was about how the heroic vietnamese fought off American invaders during the 1960s, only in this movie along with helocopters, m-16s, agent orange, and napalm -- the US army fought on unicorns and dragons, had 45 eyes, oozed slime, were bloodthristy canibals, and ate little children and kittens for breakfast.

Essentially, it would get a certain segment of their population a little bit more juiced to go to war --

I think that is probably why some Iranians are pissed off.... I can understand it.

how many thousand or hundred of years ago did these events take place?
Over 1700 years ago, but Greeks and Persians (Iranians) are still around, or more relevantly, 'the west'/europe/'whites' are still around and our government is currently in 2007 beefing with Iran/Persia's government.

Since when does everyone take FICTION so seriously...I mean damn, folks need to grow up already instead of venting over the petty bullshit! If your mind is right then some dumbass movie that is more fiction then truth shouldn't get you all worked up.

It is on the same level, in a small way, if someone made a movie about the holocaust and portrayed the Nazi Germans as "ok dudes that were kinda wrong". You know how many pissed of Jews there would be?
Yeah -- it would be more like if someone made a movie about biblical times and the jews had horns and talons and were all about slaugtering everyone..... what's the problem, that was a long time ago and it was clearly fictional.......

How many people take the Bible seriously?

How many people took "The Passion of the Christ" as fact and not fiction? People cried and described it as a "religious" experience. Don't ever forget that a large portion of our population is pretty fucking stupid.
