My Letter to Paula Zahn:
Paula Zahn.....where do you live? What does it look like outside your front door?
Seriously now, I don't really think you should comment negatively on the influence of the hip hop culture without getting out of your luxury vehicle and taking a walk in these neighborhoods to see the facts first.
These issues have existed before the creation of hip hop music. The fact that the product of these circumstances are rap artists and other urban musicians depicting in your terms "violence" and "derrogatory behavior" is simply a reflection of a lot of the social and political turmoil that this government has caused in the first place.
You should also consider the market for this form of entertainment in the first place. And also the fact that this has from your own words "80% white people" consuming this product without major basic understandings of the facts and theoretical aspects of this business behind it shouldn't really be a cause for concern and outcasting of this genre, but rather more a cause for more awareness of the differences between realities and the artificial and commercially manufactured aspects of this culture that you consciously
but ignorantly disaprove of.
I do respect the fact that you did get several people at your table who presented you with some facts, but it did not really seem to me like you understood their statements and backgrounds.
I hope you do read this letter, and take into consideration some of the things mentioned here!
Sincerely,
-Don
I honestly think that Paula is worried that "80% of white people" (her direct quote and reference to her political kind) will actually start to change their way of thinking.
