Paper Trail Productions Presents „Ice Cold Heat“ Review
By John (CEO of 5150 Promotionz)
2003 Paper Trail Productions
1.Detrimental – Getting’ It
The Album starts off with one of the hardest Tracks I’ve heard for years! Detrimental outta Richmond is from the Mob C.I.N. / Terracotta Crew and he spits some real shit about his life and how he grew up dealin with the Street Life and the Dope Game. Paper Trail Productions’ Producer DJ Sham supplied a classic Mob-style Beat. This is the type of beat Bay Area Fans who luv that ‘93-‘96 Bay shit have been waitin for! Classic Mob Shit but with a 2003 twist! Detrimental comes hella tight on the mic and I’m sure he’ll make some more noise once his solo Album on PTP drops! My favorite song off Ice Cold Heat!
“Take the good with the Bad..I’ve been sellin muthafuckin dope since Mums left dad, and I’m good with my math…”
10/10 (Classic!)
2.Big Mel – Da Coldis
First off you won’t hear any soft beats on this Album…This is Mob Shit! That’s the word that describes this Paper Trail Sound! Big Mel laces this hard ass beat with some cool lyrics.. I really feel his style. It’s kinda similar to Detrimental’s style. You can’t say that the Producer was influenced by “Mob boss producers” like Sam Bostic and Mike Mosley, cuz Sham been in this Game even longer, but if you like Sam Bostic & MM Beats, you’ll love this Beat! The Chrous by Big Mel is tight as fuck and kinda funny…Bump it loud in your ride, at home wherever!
“Just cuz I’m in the lead, it doesn’t mean that U have to follow,
I got many tips for ya ass, but my favorite tips are hollow” haha
9.7/10
3.Detrimental – Leave him Alone
The Chorus is SICK! (– He’s tha last Nigga to fuck with, so leave him alone, 40 Block is where he grew up, Richtown is his home. Tatted up and Gatted up with black and a Chrome,
I advise y’all Niggaz to leave him alone -) If I had the time I would type Detrimental’s Lyrics of “Leave him alone” cuz every single word he spits is real as fuck. I predict big Things for Det in tha future. Another mobbed out Beat by Sham of course that just keeps your head noddin.
“I represent for the Westcoast, Richmond, Killafornia, where the good die young and the young die on corners”
“I got a reputation for bustin – Handguns or Mashine guns – and I always ride solo, fucked up with a mean mugg”
10/10
4.Nutt-So – What’s it gonn be
Nutt-So is one of my favorite Rappers. You might remember him from his Group “The Street Thugz” or his Album on Outlaw Records (Label of Pac’s Outlawz). This might be called a “Radio-friendly” Track, cuz of the chorus by a female vocalist, but Nutt-So’s Tracks are always raw as fuck. The Beat is different than the 3 previous ones. It’s a fast-paced Beat, but still cool. I’d rather have heard Nutt-So on a slower Beat though, cuz I think his voice and style sound better over a slower dark Beat. Nevertheless this is a cool Track and definitely not a Track you should skip. Nutty Nut raps about Sex and Love. Good Track overall
7.5/10
5. DJ Do – We Gon’ make it
I have no idea who DJ Do is. I assume he’s from Richmond too, but he has a different style than Detrimental or Big Mel. He raps much faster and reminds me a little of Below Zero from Do Or Die. The beat is sick as fuck again. The song is about strugglin and tryin to make it to the top. I’m really feelin it. It’s kinda hard for me to quote the chorus cuz I don’t understand every word because of his tongue twisting rappin. Great Track though!
8.5./10 (Raps: 7.5/10 Beat: 9.5/10)
6.Detrimental – Richmond Killa
I remember when I first heard rappers like X-Raided or C-Bo, I was like “Damn…that shit is hard!”. Same thing happened when I first heard Detrimental. He’s a Savage fo real. This Track is dedicated to J.Jona of the Mob C.I.N. who’s doin time in the pen. “Richmond Killa” is probably the hardest Track ( along “Getting It”) on Ice Cold Heat. You can feel Detrimental’s anger when u hear this track. This Is Gangsta Shit! This is muthafuckin Mob Music! After 3 tracks you should have realized that DJ Sham’s Beats are taylor made for Detrimental. It’s another mid-paced mobbed out Beat. I hope DJ Sham will produce the entire Detrimental Solo Album.
He finishes the track givin a shout out to the Mob CIN and his Son.
10/10 (U think I’m a fan huh? Haha U muthafuckin right)
7. Big Mel – Da Boyz N da Bay
I swear to god the Beat sounds like a Beat E-40 would have ripped in his prime. At Sick Wid It Records: GET AT DJ SHAM! Damnit…lol
The second song by Big Mel and it’s another bangin Track! Like I said the Beat is tight as fuck…hella funky. I’m really feelin the melody and Big Mel really flows “on-beat” . Mel and another Rapper (don’t know the name since it’s not listed) rap about Bitches and how they have no love for Hoes. Some lines had me rollin. A tight track overall.
“The Boyz in da Bay.. All of us….Who make riches …What do we do? – DOG BITCHES”
“break these Bitches backs when I bend a bitch over,
I used to have a Bitch who let me ride a Chevy Nova, but when I blew the engine up..The Relationship was over” haha
9/10
8. Family Business – They gon’
Another one my favorite Tracks! The Beat is hella tight. “They gon’” is different from the previous track cuz it’s a sad, deep song dedicated to all the homies they lost. The Track is perfect. From the beat to the chorus to the rappin. I don’t have any infos about “Family Business” but I would cop an “FB” Album with a quickness!
9.7/10
9. Family Business – Trouble, Trouble, Trouble
Second Track by Family Business. This time it’s a harder Track. The Beat is vicious with a heavy bass line. I really like the Rapper’s voice... The only thing I ain’t feelin is the Chorus. The other Family Business Track is tighter to me, but the Beat of “Trouble” alone makes it worth listening! I’m half way done with this review and I have yet to hear a wack beat. The Production so far is mainly top-notch mob shit.
8/10 (Raps: 7/10 Beat. 9/10
10. DJ Do – What’s Up
Another DJ Do Heater. This Time it has that summer time feel to it. I advise Y’all to bump it on a sunny say in your car hella loud with the windows down rollin down the boulevard. This song just makes you feel good. It’s a medium paced beat and has some cool Lyrics by DJ Do
Good Track!
8.5/10
11. Heatseeker – Freeway Mob-Like Muzic
“If you got a stolen Mobby, Highspeed chase that bitch! If you got a bucket, swing that shit! If you got high performance shit, freeway-mob that Muthafucka to the muzic!”
Aww shit! Another one of my favorite Tracks..! This track is raw as fuck! Classic mob Style beat and gangsta Lyrics to the fullest by Heatseeker. The Title explains what this shit is about FREEWAY MOB-LIKE MUZIC! Bump this shit in your ride!
“Freeway mob-Like Muzic, makes my adrenalin rush,
and any enemy in my facility better be ready to bust!
Cuz I’m Savage, Fully-Automatic adict,
who will pop your back quick like a Chiropractic” = TIGHT!
10/10
12. Big Mel – Flame on
Top-Notch Production again! I’m really diggin the Beat. Big Mel comes sick as fuck. This kinda reminds me of his other track “Da Coldis”. Big Mel raps a lil faster but it fits the beat perfectly. Good Track again.
8/10
13. Ghost – Corrupted Minds
The first one of two bangin “Ghost” Tracks. They hella remind of 3X Krazy! One of the members got killed some time ago and you won’t hear many more Tracks from Ghost, but I gotta say both of the tracks on Ice Cold Heat are sick as fuck! One of the rappers reminds me of B.A. from 3X and the other reminds me of that dude from Steady Mobbin. The Beat is dark and the lyrics are hella hard. Sick ass Track!
9/10
14. Ghost – My Doctrine
Another One of my favorites on this Album. I’m lovin the Chorus! Beat is tight too and Ghost come hard as hell. This Track shouldn’t be on this Album if I’m not mistaken, but after one of the members died Paper Trail Prod. changed their opinion and put this track on the Album. It was a real good decision in my opinion, cuz this track is off the hook! I luv this track.
“Check my doctrine..military minded soul, with my hands in the air screamin “Fuck my Foes!””
10/10
15. DJ Do – I’m a hustla
I’m at Track 15 now and this is the first Track I’m not really feelin! The Beat is a little annoying and the chrous kills it (I’m a Hustlaaa). I’ve read mixed reviews about this song so give it a listen..you might like it..
5/10
16. Detrimental – Stayed True
You won’t hear a wack Detrimental Song on this Album! It seems it’s impossible for Detrimental to make a wack track. The Terracotta Mob Rapper raps sick as fuck AGAIN to a bangin mob-style beat- the Beat is one of my favorites of the Album. The Melody reminds me of that Darkroom Familia Song off Penitentiary Chances (“You’re in a Darkroom now, you cannot stop us now”). Sick ass track! Has me fiendin for the Detrimental Solo!
9.5/10
17. Detrimental – Put that on something
This was the first Detrimental song I ever heard and I’m still feelin it to the fullest!
The Chorus is hella catchy and Det’s Lyrics are hard as usual. Like I said Dj Sham and Detrimental are a deadly combination. Give Detrimental a DJ Sham beat and he’ll rip it to shreds! Detrimental really shines on this Album! All 5 Det tracks on Ice Cold Heat are off the hook!
Chorus:“I put that on my momma, I put that on my son, I put that on my cousin, Nigga, I put that on my Gun!”
10/10
