Alot of people on this board should really go deep into the history of mixtapes from all regions and go back to the basics of a quality mixtapes. From my stand point, the only quality mixtapes i've peep from the bay is the Done Deal & Celski & Killa Keise. The direction mixtapes are headed is similar to the direction of the underground music scene, and the underground music scene speaks for itself.


QUALITY OVER QUANTITY!!!!!

I agree it makes me not want to them anymore evrybody si doing them and they are getting worse, atleast mix the songs damn i get cats shit and not saying no names they are loud ass vocals screaming at me and i can barely hear the beat, shit ya 2 tracked everything atleast spend some money on mixing the shit

real talk, the big names should be the ones doin em, while the other artists should be doin regular cd's maybe with a couple sampled songs if they want to show what they could do over some other nigga's beat, ya dig.

you're absolutely right about the dj's puttinthem out. Its almost two completely different things. Out here its basically just steal somebody's beat and rap to it. I'm assuming that most these mixtapes don't actually pay IPR fees or anymoney to the original musicians. That's fucked. I remember when samplin was on and poppin. It got real big. Then they started crackin down on it because nobody was payin the OG's for their shit. I wonder if it wont happen with mixtapes as well. Only thing is these music cats seem so preoccupied with stopping downloaders, they aren't even concerned about people jackin entire songs. Then again I may be wrong. I have never put out a mixtape, so I dont know. Maybe people really are paying some money for the right to use other people beats. But..... knowin how niggas be..... and the fact that its mostly up and comers on the snatch..... I doubt it.

we did have our own styles... COMPILATIONS, and they started being shytty.. Its not that we have garbage mix tapes.. we just dont have alot of cats wit hella skills puttin them out... theres alot of cats. puttin out these CD's and they just aint hot...

you cant compare east to west mixtapes.....thats like comparing apples to oranges........two different styles of living.....two different sides of the US period........

i ve heard plenty of mixtapes from both sides........and they are all different, its what you really like to hear....

we do mixtapes to keep our voice on the streets! to keep our sound circulating..........not to make a quick buck, fuck that...plus out here in the bayarea everyones heads are tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fucking big......................im justgoing to stop right there!

but the mixtapes i have felt have been ours, cellski, done deal, pbe.....and krymewave.............

Mixx Tapes are good. Just do it how it should be done.

Not to referance the East coast but they dont sell it like a regular CD $15.99. They hustle it for cheap just to keep the Name out.


What M Dash and NBD did was cool. Givin it away to get it out.

Keep Doing it and If Folks dont like it dont Buy it But Others Will.

I like that Cane Arsen and The Derogatory Statments, Along with that Done Deal.

I feel you 100% although the South has been puttin it down with the SCREWED AND CHOPPED CD and I if you notice from the South they are DJ's doing the same thing, I've never heard an artist put out a mixtape except here in California....BUT AT THE SAME TIME, THERE'S NO GUIDELINES TO THIS RAP SHIT, THE ONLY CATS IN THE BAY THAT'S GONNA TAKE OFF IS THE ONE'S THAT STOP RIDIN THEIR OWN COAT TAILS AND BE OPEN TO IDEAS AND CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM.

i feel you. me & my camp (Mobbed Out Click) was thinkin bout droppin our mixtape like last month, but we've decided to just concentrate more on our debut album right now. because we said if we were gone do a mixtape then it would be with original production, and we'd remix other peoples beats. but we decided not to drop one at all, because of how easy it was to make em, and how over flooded it got. shit i know people who dont rap thatz doin mixtape's now.

i just checked out northern-ridaz and listened to that new herm mixtape. shit is knockin for real. i cant tell if the songs are mixed though. but the vereses is heat
