Ok, I'm doing a reserach paper on Socialization and Music cultures and would appreciate your opinions.

Considering this is a Rap site, I need your opinions/vote on Rather you believe currently that society imtates art or vica versa in Rap/HipHop culture. Underground, mainstream, clothes, etc is all inclusive.

The poll question is a definate survey but ANY of your thoughts are welcomed.

Anything along the lines of....

Have the recent years of rap have changed and evolved into a new culture?
Can violent lyrics create violence?
Do youth(13-25) try to gain the materialism found in most mainstream HipHop?
(jewelry,cars,women?)
etc
Does gang related music glorify gang activities?

Art imitates life or life imitates art?

I hope this makes sense, i havent had much sleep..lol..ask if anything needs to be clarified.

I think it used to be a product of the environment for a while, and then you got the youth now a days, they want to be it. So i see tons of people looking and acting like the way music groups can make you. MUSIC MAKES THE CULTURE. Thats why peeps are gonna stay hellas broke and getting in trouble and doing drugs, trying to be what they hear and see.

I agree with Blight. When rap first came out, it was art imitating life. Then, when artists started having a whole lot of money, cars, jewelry, & girls, they started talking about that (which may or may not have imitated their life). Then people listening to the music felt that cars, money, & jewelry would get them girls. And girls started wanting dudes with cars, money, & jewelry. So then life begins to imitate art. That's why we have all these little dudes runnin around with these knee-length white gold chains on, with a 50 pound charm on the end (49 of the 50 pounds comes from the cubic zirconias that are in it). That's the way I look at it.

I hope I can get like $5 or somethin for helpin ya!!! j/k

Today radio rap is an imitation of society. Society DOESNT WANT to hear or see or talk about the violence and other social problems or aspects that underground rappers do, so people in control of our society (Viacom, Turner Networks, etc) look for a lightened sound. That sound has become to the tune of money and possession. It almost like they think they are helping the world by ridding popular culture of violence, but in reality they are turning generations into individualistic selfish spoon fed zombies.
