Because love is love and without love majors don't show love! We all need love...love is love and with love comes love!

so show some love and but some bay albums and make the majors show some love...because when it's all said and done....money is love, love is money, and the bay is hard!

My 2.5 cents..

In my eyes the #1 reason for the "lack of Bay Area mainstream attention" is the falling off of behind the scenes business that listeners do not hear.. It is the lack of Publicists covering the bay, writers, journalists, camera men, advertising, managers, venues, creative promotions (contests, giveaways, unique choreographed shows with stage props and dancers etc)... All these things add to a "professional presentation" making artists look more like stars...

I have gained a lot from listening to everyones opinions. I agree that an artists "image" is important, but if the music is not there then you aint got shit. I feel you on the whole looks thing, but on the real bitches wanna fuck anything they see on TV....biggie and jay are proof of that. So i dont consider that a valid point, and you try telling your artist that they need more "charisma", or to tailor their music to please a specific audience. Most artists I know would be affended by doing that, thats not what the game is about. If you believe in your artist, you should work hard to get em out there. After that its connections mixed with sales, and a bit of luck....but tailoring an artists craft to specifically please some mainstream audience is not what m in the business for, and neither are our artists....

92 live, I agree with your predictions of bay rappers who have a chance to make it big. Finally somebody mentions A-Wax, one of the few rappers in their prime right now. I thought Freako died recently though, correct me if I'm wrong.

The fact of the matter is that 92live is partially right. Looks and image do play a HUGE role in the success or failure of an artist, however, if they are tight enough (biggie, short back in the day, etc.) or have a big enough gimmick or hit song (smilez & southstar, ying yang etc.) then it can happen for them. Looks will get you far but chuck is right if you make a hit and have money then the bitches come anyway. Jay Z has the baddest bitch in the game. PEriod.

BUt I agree without saying names that the Bay does lack alot of creativity, charisma, and intergrity to go to the next level. Thats not to say that true with everyone or that no one can make it without being different but the fact of the matter is we have too many cookie cutter artists in the Bay and the West as a whole.

We also have some future stars with potential but too many people still make "block" songs. You may even like someone's shit or they might make good music for us but that doesnt mean they are gonna blow.

We do have an impressive roster of some good up and comers though right now like The Team, Mistah FAB, Frontline, Balance, A-Wax, and then established almost up there cats like Jacka, Messy, San Quinn and pretty much all of Done Deal. I do disagree with 92live though on Quinn, DOES have the look and bitches love him. I've witnessed it. The talent is there so Quinn still can do it. The question is will THEY (the industry) ever let us back in after we blew it so big in the mid-90's?

No other region dropped the ball as bad as we did, when 90% of our artists had deals at one time. If you dont believe me look at all the cats with alot of radio play in from the Bay who still dont have record deals,

Peace.

its funny how when anyone says anything remotely negative about quinn, done deal "ceo" has to come and save his prized possesion. I agree with 92live quinn does not have the type of charisma that a 2pac, biggie, nelly, 50 cent or for that matter mac dre or tech n9ne. when I pick up a magazine and it says it has interviews with artists like mac dre, tech n9ne, keak da sneak, jt the bigga figga and san quinn, i'll tell u im least intrested in what quinn has to say, basically because he's the white collared rapper, nothing too intresting about him, just good raps.

Do you really believe that most artists dont give a fuck about being on MTV? You got it fucked up. Looked at all the ultra-underground cats who got deals and love MTV now like Lil flip, David Banner and soon to see Mike Jones, Paul Wall, and Chamillionaire on there.

Whether, we like it or not MTV is the ultimate seal of success. Period. And yes, EVERY artist wants that when they get it but they act like they dont cuz they aint got it.

Just my opinion.

looks do play apart in this shit if the artist doesnt have any talent then he or she needs to have something going for him or her. at the end of the day the music will speak for its self. also i dont think females was throwing they thongs and shit at 50 when he was walking down the street as just curtis. we all love pac and in one of his interviews he says he was at a club and couldnt get one bitch to talk to him, a year later he has a hit song and hes at the same club and they fighting over him. and for dude to say these niggaz dont have no charisma u smoken homie.these niggaz dont have nonething but charisma. ive been some of everywere and bay niggaz is always the flyest gangsta rather im in atlanta or the big apple or down south some were hoes love us and niggaz respect us. charisma thats one thing we fosho got

most albums sales are women though.... and thats just being real... trl and all that bullshit. Its all about commercial apeal with the majors. The more I post on this site, the more I realize most posters have no sense on the music BUSINESS... they just think its about whos hard

agreed.... Talent doesnt equal success... you think JLo can sing? or Britney Spears??? No, but they sell mad records every time out. Its all about image and who can be in the teeny magz and shit

Hit records. That's it. Hit records make the rest of that shit irrelevant. I understand the "total package" concept but when it comes down to it, it's about making hits at the end of the day.

It's easier to create an image and a look than it is to create a hit record. You can be the most handsome, engaging individual with the greatest gimmick ever thought of but if your songs are wack, your songs are wack.

Simple
