It depends what you mean by old school rap music. Alot of people are calling early 1990s to mid 1990s rap old school now (and they are out of their fucking minds IMO)

To me old school is Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5, The Sugarhill Gang, U.T.F.O., Whodini, Kurtis Blow, and artist/groups like that.

So I need to know what one you are talking about before I can answer that question.

My favorite time period would be early and mid 1990's, followed by late 70's to the mid 80's. Than from the later 1990's to now. In the past 3-4 years though especially rap has become way to over saturated.

In 2005 there were like 6-7 rap cds I though were sick as fuck...maybe another 15 or so that were dope. The rest either had one or two tight songs or were utter garbage...with utter garbage being the majority for the rest.

the g-funk era was the best for me; followed by late 80s rap

nowadays only some of the southern rappers do quality music and it is really not that high quality as the mid 90s southern rap, they are just the only ones who didn't change their style 2 much

Their from the same time period man...just a different style. Ricks first tape came out in 1988 and Kool G Rap and DJ Polos first one came out in 1989.

Slick Rick debuted in 1985 on Doug E Fresh's The Show, and the famous B-Side cut 'La Di Da Di'

Kool G Rap's first record was 'Its A Demo' from 1986

Old Skool used to be Melle Mel, Cold Crush, Treach 3, then RUN DMC changed the game with drum machine beats, after that came Public Enemy, Eric B & Rakim etc - at the time that was known as 'The New School' - after that came the afrocentric shit from Tribe Called Quest etc, then came Gangsta Rap take over in the early 90's. Depends how old you are i guess but in my eyes 95 onwards is not Old Skool, even though it was 11 years ago LOL damm im old as fuck.

Fuck knows what we call current rap either
