Rams part ways with WR Holt

The St. Louis Rams have released veteran WR Torry Holt in a move that was expected –- and desired by Holt.

The Rams cut Holt, a 10-year veteran and fan favorite, on Friday afternoon, four days before he was due a $1.25 million roster bonus. The move creates nearly $8 million in salary-cap room for the Rams.

St. Louis tried to trade Holt but had no takers.

The call follows St. Louis’ decision earlier this week to part with longtime OT Orlando Pace in a similar, two-pronged move. Cutting Pace and Holt saves the Rams roughly $14 million in cap space, but it also continues the team’s move to a younger roster under new coach Steve Spagnuolo.

Holt, 32, reportedly asked to be released in anticipation of being fazed out of the offense. The seven-time Pro Bowler has played in all but two games since being drafted in the first round from N.C. State in 1999. He surpassed the 1,000-yard receiving mark eight times in his career. In 2008, though, amid an overall awful year for St. Louis, Holt caught just 64 passes for 796 yards and three touchdowns. It was statistically one of his worst seasons, with only his rookie campaign being less productive.

Holt is statistically among the best receivers in NFL history with 869 receptions, 12,660 yards and 74 touchdowns.

Yesterday it was reported that Julian Peterson would be cut by the Seahawks........ today they are saying this.......

According to FoxSports.com's Alex Marvez, the Seahawks have traded LB Julian Peterson to the Lions for DT Cory Redding. SI's Peter King is confirming.
PFT first reported the rumor, with MLive.com confirming that the talks were ongoing. Marvez and King are reporting that the deal has been completed. It's believed that Seattle will receive a fifth-round pick as well. Redding is expected to restructure his original seven-year, $49 million deal as part of the agreement. DENVER (AP)—The Denver Broncos insist quarterback Jay Cutler isn’t on the market. His house, though, is another matter.

Cutler put his 7,516-square-foot, four-bedroom, seven-bath home in suburban Castle Pines up for sale for $2 million. A listing on real estate Web site REcolorado.com shows the agent as Fuller Sotheby’s International Realty.

Douglas County property records show Cutler paid $1.34 million for the house in August 2006.

Cutler still has a condo in downtown Denver along with his offseason home in Nashville, Tenn..

The Pro Bowl quarterback and new coach Josh McDaniels are in a dispute over attempts to trade him two weeks ago.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP)—Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says drafting a wide receiver isn’t a priority this year, even after the departure of Terrell Owens.

“One of the reasons that I made the decision on Terrell Owens was because I thought so much of our young receivers. Not only Roy Williams … but our other young receivers—Miles Austin, Sam Hurd, those are guys that will now have a chance,” Jones said Thursday night. “It would really have to be a real opportunity for us to go there.

“The good news with our team right now is we can go about any direction we want to in the draft and pick the best player.”

Owens was released last week and later signed with the Buffalo Bills.

Jones, a former Arkansas Razorbacks player, was in Little Rock to be honored by Easter Seals as its 2009 Arkansan of the Year. He was accompanied by three Cowboys: quarterback Tony Romo, tight end Jason Witten and running back Felix Jones.

Another ex-Baltimore Ravens is joining Rex Ryan and the New York Jets.

The Newark Star-Ledger reported, the Jets agreed to terms with defensive end Marques Douglas, according to a person with knowledge of the negotiations. That person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the club hasn't announced the deal. Details of the contract were not immediately available.
