Set a Guinness World Record
Enjoy a Better Web

Sounds like a good deal, right? All you have to do is get Firefox 3 during Download Day to help set the record for most software downloads in 24 hours - it’s that easy. We're not asking you to swallow a sword or to balance 30 spoons on your face, although that would be kind of awesome.

The official date for the launch of Firefox 3 is June 17, 2008. Join our community and this effort by pledging today.

I like it because it is so customizable and a great alternative to IE, but I'm not one of those persons that say "IE is teh sux!!!1!1, firefox FTW!!1!111!!!" A lot of people were asking about the official release date in the other thread, and here it is.

I don't think betas auto update either, because they're only supposed to be for testers.

I would post about the great new extensions and add-ons for IE, but there is none.

the test release is cool but its kinda been fuckin up the last couple days. It crashes at least 5 times a day
my test release has never crashed , i was crashin like hell the previous version though. what are you doing when it crashes? i know mine used to crash when i was watchin videos online.. like youtube

Firefox is the shit....

Only thing I have against it is when other people use it and have the adblock thing...and then go to my site...and don't see the ads.....and can't click the ads....and can't make me money.
that would be me , i just assume every ad is the gateway to viruses , so i dont even fuck wit em

Get yourself some nice banner advertisers, kind of how siccness promotes their artists CD's; it's more profitable anyways imo.

Firefox has gotten so much better over the past couple of years; it was always better for the speed of surfing and security no doubt, but some streaming video from corporate sites would only play in IE; I now can't think of one site that I have to use IE.

Hold off on Firefox version 3
Posted by Michael Horowitz 21 commentsI love Firefox. Usually it goes hand-in-hand with Defensive Computing, as Firefox is more secure than Internet Explorer. But not today, not with the release of version 3 of Firefox.

Don't install Firefox version 3. Not today. not for a while.

Like all new software, Firefox 3 is best kept at arms length. Version 3 was a long time coming and, no doubt, features lots of new code. At the risk of repeating myself, all new software contains bugs and design flaws. Let the rest of the world debug it for you.

This is not to pick on Firefox or Mozilla. Recently in this blog, I suggested waiting on Windows XP SP3, which turned out, in retrospect, to be the right thing to do. I also suggested holding off on Vista and Leopard when they were new. How long to wait is a matter of opinion. However, waiting rather than rushing, is always the right defensive approach.

And, when the time comes to try Firefox version 3, go with the portable version available at portableapps.com. It can happily co-exist with a normally installed copy of Firefox. The only limitation I've found is that if the normally installed copy of Firefox is running, the portable version won't run (see below).
