That could be true about LaVey, but from what I’ve read about him he was an Atheist and a Materialist that focused on individuality. He taught that we are all our own gods. As far as his rituals and other weird shit, I don’t think he believed any of that. It was more of a gimmick or symbolic way of saying “fuck you” to the rest of religions.

I did fail to mention that there are other forms of Satanism besides LaVeyism. There definitely have been groups of people that worship the Christian Satan as a literal entity. There have been numerous Satanic cults throughout the world but these are so rare that I rarely think of the literal Satanists. Satanism to me is LaVeyism.

and honestly never realized that there was a differenc between Levy's group...and the group(s) that worship the Christian Satan..

i have watched to many History Channel "occult" productions...where they group together everything as an occult..

it doesnt surprise me..
everyone groups Christianity together as 1...when they really are not..
there are several forms (denominations) in christianity...
it just never entered my mind that there would be the same thing in Satanism..

I myself am a materialist and do not believe in any form of supernatural phenomena, so the term "occult" really has no meaning to me. Just like the word "spiritual".

Well, they do oppose Christianity. I think that’s the purpose of being a Satanist – to oppose all organized religion. Labeling themselves a “Satanist” is more symbolic or for shock value, I suppose. Satanism really is a way of life – treat others how they treat you, indulge, etc. Not exactly my cup of tea but I admire some aspects.

But yeah, as far as I know they do not believe in a literal Satan.

In some circles yes, in my book no. Two different concepts/dogmas/doctrines that fall into a broader category.

Do you remember a post I made a couple of months ago explaining the difference between DEMON worship and SATANIC worship?

Pagan = spiritual/religious beliefs and practices of a "natural” religion (Wicca, Astrau, etc.).

Satanism = Teachings of Anton Levay.

The Occult = "Evil" or dark supernatural forces not controlled by god (Majik, numerology, Ouija boards, Tarot cards, etc.).

A lot of the confusion does NOT come from the media. It actually comes from the people who created the "religions" or practices and borrowed from each other.

Take the circle that is used in paganism and you will find the circle in occult practices when it is time to conjure. Take some of the teachings of Levay and you will find some of them tracing to paganism and OLD religions.

I'm Atheist myself and don’t believe in "da bibble" but I've always enjoyed writing 666 on objects or saying "Satan Loves You" to an innocent mid-age christian lady walking down the street. Just apart of my sense of humor and way to say or do shit that I know will freak people out. This behavior I did much more when I was younger but I still get a kick out of it every now and then.

Matter of fact I have a picture of Jesus on my refrigerator with "666" written on his forehead. It makes it all the funnier when people get offended or are shocked at things I know to be fairy tales.
