STOCKTON – A suspect in a double murder in Oakland was shot and killed this morning as police surrounded him in a Stockton residence.
Damon Jones Ferreira, 34, was pronounced dead this morning, according to Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason.
Sheriff's Deputy Dave Konecny said at about 7:10 a.m. police were surrounding a residence in the 2000 block of Report Avenue when a single gunshot was heard. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, Konecny said.
Thomason said the gunshot wound appeared to be self-inflicted but noted that the investigation is ongoing.
The sheriff's protocol team that typically responds to officer-involved shootings has been called to the scene, Konecny said.
Ferreira was a suspect in a September double homicide in Oakland. He was featured in an episode of the television show “America's Most Wanted” on Saturday.
Konecny said Oakland police had contacted the sheriff's department about serving warrants in San Joaquin County as part of a search for a homicide suspect. Warrants were served this morning at multiple residences in the area, Konecny said. He would not say how many residences were searched.
