The confederate flag has everything and nothing to do with race.
Sure, you can view it as white people making a statement that they don't like blacks or other races, and thats fine. However, not all people who display an image of a confederate flag feel that way. Symbols like that are open to interpretation, and when someone interprets it in a demeaning way, they get their feelings hurt and make a big deal out of it, even if the person displaying the image did not mean it in that context.
Furthermore, Abe Lincoln didn't give a fuck about slaves, he only freed them so they would run to the union and fight against the south. He decreed the Emancipation Proclimation out of necessity. To me the confederate flag is merely a symbol of rebellion, not of racism. Like one of the posters in the comments section said "I don't get why its okay for students south of our border to wear shirts with the face of murderer Che Guareva on them, while students from the south in our country can't display an icon that means something to them" (paraphrased).
Get your panties out your asshole, there's bigger issues to deal with than this.
