Direct TV Pulls The Versus Network From Programming Lineup

Bad news for mixed-martial-arts fans who use DirecTV: The company pulled its Versus feed, which is home to World Extreme Cagefighting, on Tuesday night with no promise it'll return.

DirecTV dropped the signal following a midnight deadline after the broadcast satellite service couldn't reach an agreement with Versus on what it would pay to carry its signal.

Versus, which is also a broadcast home to the NHL, was asking for a fee increase.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) contacted DirecTV officials for comment and was directed to a message on the company's Web site.

The message blamed Comcast, the largest U.S. cable operator in the U.S., for the bloackout The cable company also owns Versus.

"They (Comcast) regularly try to charge us amounts well in excess of what is fair and reasonable to carry the programming they own," the message stated. "Their reason is obvious: They want to stifle competition from DirecTV. Comcast's unfair terms undermines DirecTV's ability to offer our customers the best possible value. If we simply accept these terms, we would have to absorb the unreasonable costs Comcast wants to charge us, and in turn we will be forced to increase the rates our customers pay. We do not want this to happen. In fact, Comcast has forced us to remove Versus because we would not accept the terms they demanded."

another reason why direct tv blows!
how is this dtv's fault?

comcast trying to price them out for a station they own, thinking oh man dtv cant offer VS we are in control now. Not thinking that in reality VS is a low rate sports site that has worse ratings then other stellar channel like speed channel and even tennis channel.

Comcast should be lucky to get any money out of that shit station at all!

Dish network has no problem paying it and giving it out for free. I really doubt they're paying a lot for it. And it's a decently big channel that's hone to the wec, NHL and tour de France which all bring in higher than average ratings for non-network television.

I would love to know where you are getting your info from.

the past 2 playoff seasons on VS have been the least watch nhl playoffs EVER!

And other than Tour de France rating i find it hard to believe you will EVER find VS on a top of anything list.

NHL ratings actually doubled this year for the playoffs. So no. They're not down. Early round games were pulling in a 4.0 which makes it on of the highest rated programs on non-network television.

Versus is pretty dope actually, they have the WEC...they reply boxing fights in HD, and some other stuff on there too.

Only thing I don't watch on there is that stupid ass rodeo shit.

lol word dude. The Cerrone card's a little thin so I'm hoping they go all out for Mollywhoppin Brown vs. Mini Wand Aldo. Throw Mizugaki-Torres II on there or something
