BET isn't screwing the bay out of anything because it has no obligation to the bay. BET is a product intended to generate revenue by means of mass consumption (ie: the more people watching, the more money they can make). Naturally it's in their best interests to maximize the appeal of their products. Bay area rap music has little to no commercial appeal which is why you don't see industry using it. If 'hyphy' was as effective as say using sexually appealing women, or artists with top 10 songs in advertising, it would be everywhere.

Bay (local) acts aren't on the roster because there's nothing to really gain by using them. Local/regional interest is mediocre while national interest is practically non-existent. So how would the product benefit? It wouldn't. If you wanted to attract the largest audience possible, would you utilize people like Keak Da Sneak for example, or Yung Joc?

It amazes me that there are cats who actually believe the music business is a service for the people, to the people. That couldn't be farther from the truth.

To Nas Hip Hop is dead arguement- New York needs to get a cultural movement restarted, its not about hip hop is dead its about New York's lack in collectivity and creativeness to revive thier music scene. The music industry has always been about putting out the hottest music, and New York's shit isn't hot with the exception of a few veterans and some one hit wonders. I think its hypocritical when artists say Hip Hop is Dead and blame commercialism when it was that same commercial system that helped put them on top. And to say theres no more music being made for the people and by the people, people in the South and the Bay can really rebuke that, because their loving their hip hop right now. Hip Hop aint dead, New York Hip Hop is just sleeping right now.

Actually, little boy, we are the ONLY one's still putting out good music in the mainstream and underground. Don't blame the Superior Coast for this.

And Nas did hold himself and other rappers to blame when he said Hip Hop is Dead.
