SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -- Cornerback Walt Harris completed a two-year contract extension with the San Francisco 49ers on Monday.
Harris, an 11-year veteran who earned his first trip to the Pro Bowl in his first season with the 49ers, led the NFC with eight interceptions. The extension keeps Harris with San Francisco through 2009.
After starring on a mediocre defense last season, Harris will have plenty of competition in training camp this summer. The 49ers signed free-agent cornerback Nate Clements to an eight-year, $80 million deal earlier in the month, so Harris will compete for a starting job with Shawntae Spencer, who also got a contract extension last fall.
