I know hockey fans are a minority here, but for those who are interested, here are some of the more important trades from today. "Big" player names are in bold.

SJ Sharks traded 3rd round draft pick for Ville Nieminen. <--good playoff pickup

Montreal Canadiens traded Jose Theodore (G) to Colorado Avalanche for David Aebischer (G)

NY Islanders traded Mark Parrish and Brent Sopel to LA Kings for Denis Grebeshkov and Jeff Tambellini

Minnesota Wild Traded Dwayne Roloson (G) to Edmonton Oilers for 1st round draft pick

Toronto Maple Leafs traded Ken Klee to NJ Devils for an unnamed player

Boston Bruins acquired Mariusz Czerkawski off waivers from Toronto Maple Leafs

Expect Brendan Witt to be traded away by the Capitals before the trade deadline (tomorrow) and the Sharks to make one or two minor moves. Mark Recchi might be traded away by the Pneguins, too.

Ville Nieminen

an ex-AV....He can play I was disappointed when they let him go a couple of years back.

AND WE GOT RID OF ABBY??????

Theodore is good but I don't know if it's a good enough improvemnt as I am sure he comes with a higer price tag.

What really weird about the goalie swap is that Jose Theodore is injured and won't be back for a while. I wonder why Pierre Lacroix would trade for an injured player.

As far as Nieminen goes, I'm not a Sharks fan, but a player like him is much needed by them. He can score and he's a pest. And he always seems to come alive for the playoffs.

Yeah, but with the way the sharks have been playing lately the playoffs aren't looking too likely for them...im a sharks fan and i hope that can change but they really need to start winning against teams that are close to them...but yeah im happy with the trade and hopefully this will give them that extra boost to get that 8th seed.

haha, I haven't even looked at the standings for a while, I didn't realize how far out they were. But, if you look at the western conference as a whole, no one is doing very well lately except Detroit, so they have a chance. Edmonton's acquisition of Roloson will definately make the harder to catch, though.

Nieminen is a very useful player nonetheless and I'm sure they will rise in the standings with him on their team. How much he'll help, I dunno.

theyve been back from 4 to about 10 points for the past 2 months...so while they havent really lost much ground they havent gained any on the 8th seed and time is running out...hopefully they can get their shit together and charge into the playoffs.
