Hey thascary 1 don't get mad now... I just cut and pasted this:

Of the past 11 quarterbacks selected No. 1 overall, nine have led their respective teams to the playoffs. The only exceptions, so far, are David Carr (Houston, 2002) and Alex Smith (San Francisco, 2005).

LOL

Uhhh...thats a perfectly reliable excuse.

For a QB and a WR to be successful, they NEED eachother. How can a QB have a god year if his recievers cant run routes? Cant catch balls? Dont make better efforts to make tough grabs?

How can a WR be good if his QB cant trhwo the ball near him? Doesnt have good timing on deep routes? Doesnt have very good arm strentgh? Has an inaccurate arm? Doesnt make wise decisions?

Tony, just stop. Please, for the love of this board....STOP.
Actually...it is NOT an excuse.

There have been many QB's that have played on horrible ass teams...they never develop and are forever known as busts.

That's the way it works.

That was my point.

Point is, you can be a great QB, but youre only as great as your recievers ALLOW you to be. Same as a reciever, you can ony be as good as your QB lets you.

The 2 positions rely on eachother.

Quick... slow down and learn how to read. Tim Couch leading the Browns to the playoffs helps the theory that I cut and pasted. Out of 11 quarterbacks that were picked 1st overall, 9 of them lead their teams to the playoffs. The only ones that didn't are David Carr and Alex Smith (so far).

David Carr was sacked the most times in the history of the NFL one year....and Alex had NO...i repeat NO recieving core.

Who did Tim Couch have as his receiving core when he led the Browns to the playoffs? So let's not go off topic. Out of 11 Qb's that were picked 1st overall, 9 led their teams to the playoffs. If Smith leads the 49ers that would make 10 out of 11. That's a very, very high percentage...

And Rev. Jesse... I know what I am talking about. Everyone who agrees with you keep saying it's a big risk. We know that... GM's still take them. Look at San Diego. They didn't give up on drafting Qb's after they drafted Leaf did they? They drafted Brees and then Rivers. It's a gamble.... sometimes they pay off and sometimes they don't. If the Raiders draft Russell... it could pay off or it won't. Gotta take the shot a see what happens.

You think Cincinnati is having regrets about drafting Carson Palmer number 1 overall? Do you think the 49ers are having any regrets about drafting Alex Smith number one overall? You think Atlanta is having any regrets about taking Mike Vick number one overall?

Alex is young give him time, with that said I think we could of ran with Rattay for another year and drafted Leinart, Cutler, or Young last year but I'm not the GM.

The reason I keep bringing up Alex Smith is because he was the last qb picked number one overall... so I am using the most recent number one qb picked overall as an example. Don't get offended but some of y'all (Rev. Jesse and the Quickster) got some bad comprehension skills for real!

I feel you on that GTS but when the 49ers drafted Alex Smith they felt that he had the potential to be a "franchise" qb so that's why they drafted him with the first overall pick and now they're building around him. They have huge expectations now. It's year 3 so it's playoff time for the 49ers right? Mike Nolan and every coach and GM in the NFL pretty much know that any player can turn out to be a bust but you can't let that thought have a negative effect on who you're going to draft.

Ok... so say David Carr wasn't sacked so many times... he would have led the Texans to the playoffs right?

And if Alex Smith would have had a receiving core then he would have led the 49ers to the playoffs right?

So that would make 11 out of 11 qb's picked 1st overall leading their teams to the playoffs. You're hurting your own argument by making excuses for the QB's that didn't lead their teams to the playoffs.
