What did you think was missing from it...
Why I dont think its a bad peice of gear, some things I disliked were ( these are all of course my opinion and do not apply to everyone )
1.) The LCD, while not bad, I have a Trinity and the larger LCD does make it easy ( the touch screen too, but I also own a P2K and have no problem getting in and around to what ever I need to get to.)
2.) FX - Very limited for a workstation ( now they have greatley improved on this with the ES )
3.) Expansion - I do like there idea of adding new synth engines to the motif verses just rom chips, but then what do they do, bring out old yamaha synth engines ( DX- A1NX or how ever the letter are placed ) ????? Then the new ones are a drum card and a latin percusion card??? Doesn't add up like yamaha says it should.
4.) The sequencer - while it is good, they just go about doing some things kind of starnge to me ( also in the motif's defense I have not used it on a dailey basis, but I can get into anything farley easy, and just some things were kind of odd )
5.) Sounds - To many meat and potatoe sounds, not enoungh vairtey, and only 300 something preset's from the factory ?????( and dont give me that make your own sounds shit, cause unlike most cats I know how to program, and most of the presets in my trinity I've made or altered, but that takes time and some times I would like to start with a palette of decent sounds to begin with ) kind of plain to me. I do like the fact they do inclued a free voice editor and voice libarian with the motif though, that in itself is a very nice extra.
And the small little shit like 1 midi out, no digital out as standard, the keyboard action felt good, nice to accsess to sounds by separte catagory buttons, and 16 sepearte buttons for each midi channel in nice too.
All in all, it is a good sounding board, but I didn't feel the need to get one. The new ES does sound alot more atractive though. Im looking to upgrade soon, I'm just gonna wait a couple of more months and see how things pan out and then go from there. theres alot to chose from nowadays.
