Being that the original Night of the Living Dead is a public domain film, it basically means it's up for grabs for anyone who's willing to take it and mold it into whatever they want. Thus, we have yet another remake in development, this time planned to be a 3D CGI animated feature. Described as an "American-style anime," the film would offer an updated storyline and deliver more backstory on the lead characters.
Simon West Productions will produce Night of the Living Dead: Origins, which will be directed by newcomer Zebediah de Soto, who also wrote the script with David R. Schwartz. The duo apparently started a digital effects company, which will develop new cutting edge hardware/software. For Night they plan to use a new real-time effects system called "The Beast," which is said to allow the filmmakers to direct CG performances the same way as real live actors.
