i recently shot some footage with my sony camcorder. i uploaded it onto my computer off the mini-disc. the file is in .vob. thanks to a couple people from the other thread they gave me places to go for a video converter. i tried it a few times earlier but everytime i threw in my video editin program it still played as one thing when there's hella different frames and shots. i just wanna convert it to an .avi file that way i can cut up different parts and etc.. anyone know how to do this? this is gettin frustratin.

i have done this when ex-nba player scot pollard gave me some DVD's. i'm on a mac. and i sued a program called HandBrake (Free+Fast)

you have to mess with the settings to get it to work right, but yeah... i eventually got satisfactory quality AVI files that worked fine with final cut [ ! ] thank god for HandBrake [ ! ]

of course.. you didn't tell us if you are using a mac or pc so HEY... nobody can really help u

sorry. i can't help you. i use mac. one thing you can try is this though...
i have a mac and i downloaded a free program called "HandBrake" it didn't work at first either. so i had to change the settings. i eventually used "divx" avi conversion (i think) and it worked... viola GOOD AVI files i can use with final cut... so u just have to keep trying and mess with the settings... ANYWAY dude... HOLD UP...

u need to get REAL editing software. you said you are using "mini-dv" tapes? then if you capture (capture means taking video from the camera and capturing it on a computer) it won't make a stupid .vob file... vob files are for DVDs. FOR INSTANCE... Final Cut makes .mov files when capturing. .mov, .avi, or .mpg are the common formats for programs when capturing

^^^yea the footage was off a mini-disc. i just wanna get the footage converted to .avi from that .vob file so i can edit parts and stuff. never had to deal wit this before because in other instances, i would record the footage off the cam into the program and then from there i would export it into an .avi and then throw into the editin program and it would be fine. but i think the issue is, is since i don't have the cam that it was shot wit or the mini-disc, i can't do those faster things.
