I've gave this a few listens.....I wanted to buy it but I ended up downloading it....I think the album is awful. especially after putting together a piece of work like his double album, then going to this shit? it was horrid, just feeble attempts to be old school with thug lyrics.....I dunno....the beats didn't do it at all for me....and the song after hip hop is dead where he immitates the old southern man was stupid & off beat as fuck....with a wack ass beat behind it. I liked the concept of playing "hip hop is dead" with live instruments....but it still doesn't cover up the fact that he just recycled the lead single of his last album and put it as the lead single on this album. if you're gonna do that, then at least recycle it ain't hard to tell. I dunno, with this & jay-z's album and the game's album, I was thinking before that hip hop is getting better, but then those kind of albums come along with nothing but awful ass material and people are calling them classics

^^^your opinion, I respect it. Yet, you have to know you're an outlier on this. Most peoples are somewhere in the middle on this one, with very few flat out hating it, and very few calling it classic.

Dissing the lead single because he "reused" the beat is basically saying it's still a sick track, being that mostly everyone was feeling Thief's Theme. The concept and lyrics on the title track are nice, there is no denying that.

And, for the record. He is not imitating an "old southern man" on that song. He is imitating a 50's detective (you know, a gumshoe), hence the lyrics and the title of the song, "Who Killed It?" I'll admit, offbeat one or two times, but Nas' gets lazy sometimes...it ain't the first time he's done it. And the beat slaps...the drums from "I Ain't No Joke"? Come on!

I know, but I feel that people are calling it good because its nas and because its titled hip hop is dead. kinda like jay-z's the black album was automatically classic because it was his retirement album....then kingdom come was automatically dope because it was his return. (I actually did think the black album was good tho)

right, but when you have a live band replay something that was sampled, why not jazz it up and add more to it musically. it just seemed like he thought thiefs theme was tight, but noone gave it a chance, so he pushed it again. I know thats not really the case tho, cuz the 2 are (lyrically) completely different songs.

oh yeah....I get it.....the first time I listened I wasn't really paying attention and I kept thinking "damn, when is nas gonna come on? this foo rapping over this wack ass beat is awful" then I realized it was him changing his voice. old southern man is definetly wrong, I knew he was trying for some kind of accent but I forgot what it actually sounded like when I was writing it. and about him using the aint no joke drum pattern, the drums don't match the melody & his voice at all. and the melody was awful.
