Murder-suicide disturbs calm in Fairfield
Police think man shot pregnant wife before turning gun on himself
By MICHAEL JOYCE, The Reporter, Vacaville
FAIRFIELD - A man and his pregnant wife were found dead inside their Fairfield home Friday night in what police believe was a murder-suicide.
Investigators continued to search for answers Saturday in the city's first homicide case of the year.
"They're still researching what might have caused this to happen," Sgt. Robert Bunting said of investigators. "They'll interview family and friends and check into the background of all parties. They will be very thorough."
Two teenage daughters were present during the incident but were not injured, police said. They were reportedly safe and staying with relatives. Police chaplains were sent to the scene of the crime to counsel family members and neighbors.
At approximately 9:15 p.m. Friday, officers responded to a 9-1-1 call saying a shooting had occurred at a residence in the 4000 block of Sierra Court.
Upon arrival, patrol officers found Shane Brady, 39, of Fairfield, dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His 43-year-old wife, Una Brady, had also been fatally shot, police said. First aid attempts at the scene and at NorthBay Medical Center was unsuccessful in reviving her.
The victim was pregnant, but attempts to save her fetus were also unsuccessful. The length of the victim's pregnancy was not known Saturday, Bunting said.
Autopsies are pending.
