A lil' summary according to SoundScan for those that think 40 didnt do good, because you are wrong...

40's sales have earned him #1 rankings in several key markets including:
The Bay
LA
San Diego
Fresno
Tucson
Las Vegas

#2 In:
Seattle
Portland
Kansas
Colorado Springs

and a bunch of top 10 markets.

As for that NY rumour he only sold 629 but we know how that goes.

Dont forget he also sold 16K LEGAL downloads first week, damn good.

If I can put this in perspective for some of you here it is:
40 only sold 27K TOTAL in the Bay through his whole album of Breakin News and he did that first week....

Also 40's biggest album EVER was In A Major Way did 77K in the Bay cumulative...hes way on pace to do that.

Now just to compare some #'s for you GAME - DOCUMENTARY did 52K total in the Bay....and 50 CENT - GET RICH did 177K in the Bay total with all that god damn promo.

The key here is that his Backyard supported and he may have gotten new fans that weren't around before and if that spreads its great!

Let the hate stop 40's still a boss and it clearly bothers some people.

actually thats NYC but Im sure the state aint much more...some south markets were great though...and thats a good look

a.k.a.-what I don't get is your insistance that we should call it a flop and move on based on first week sales. Some artists do huge first week numbers then slow down immediately (Tony Yayo), some do weak first week numbers and pick up as it goes (Keyshia Cole). 40 is the second type. He's an acquired taste, you really have to convince people. Three-four singles. You should know how rap works, new styles take a while to sink in. You talking about people like T.I. and such-the south was already big when they came out, they were pushing an already established type of rap, shit wasn't difficult. 40 is coming with some brand new shit and it'll take some time and a strong push for it to do big numbers. Damn near 100K is decent numbers, I didn't really expect more than that. I expect the shit to sell in the long term, and that's what matters.

good point dog and also people are forgetting that a street artist like 40 can sell up to 30% of his sales at mom + pops

you probably could of bought the 40 album in nyc from a mom and pop or street hustler for $5 less than the soundscan store.

It is what it is, Sales are gon pick up, 40 gon go at least gold, But I'm guessin Platinum, so the first week wasnt as good as some other maawfuckas, he's Still puttin it down 4 north Cali on the mainstream tip without switchin it up, So give my nigga some credit 4 dat... think 4 A second, 93,000 muthfuckas went out n spent $15 bonez on a nigga talkin bout goin dumb!!! the whole world aint gon feel it like we do in Nort Cali Cuz they on so ol watered down shit thanx to 50 n all that other weak radio shit...Folks is actin like just cuz he aint hit 720,000 the first week like mary j blige he aint a vet no mo, like he dont rep no mo... ^^ You're right. I've never been to NYC nor witnessed how things are handled out there. I'm only going by assumption based on how NYC reacted in the mid-ninety's era to the rise of Westcoat hip-hopand how their radio stations boycotted WestCoast rap...

And how I keep reading about some NYC DJ dissing Southern artists, who are currently running the rap-game...

And from reading the majority of NY cats bash E-40 without even listening to any of his material on the SOHH and ALLHIPHOP forums...

I've never been to NYC dog, I won't front. I'm just assuming from what I hear and read...

I think when they put out the next single and video his sales will sky rocket. they already playin that one with him and T.Pain. you gotta be honest to ya self..thats a guaranteed hit right there..girls will be lovin that shit when they hear it. then you'll see his shit sellin like hot cakes.

but it did do amazing numbers for a mixtape tho..

And as far as 40 goes like i said 95k first week on a major with that much promo is dissapointing to say the least..


but that doesnt mean it's over for him or that he ALREADY FLOPPED..

like i said if they push the next singles as much as they pushed "tell me when to go" e40 can still do some good numbers...

alot of gold artists started out slow : cham is certified gold and he sold 115 first week... juelz is gold and he sold 125 first week... bun b is gold and he sold 117 first week.. ya feel me so he can still easily do it..

but i do agree with alot of shit your saying tho i can see that you know what you talking about..

AND OH YEAH YAYO SOLD OVER 200K FIRST WEEK!!AND HE JUST TOUCHED GOLD AND HE WAS CONSIDERED A FLOP ! GET YA FACTS STR8 PEOPLE

Is the word "flop" really hurtin niggas feelins. Even if a nigga feel that way, it aint a fact feelme. Promotion, most folks in tha state still don't know what tha fuck hyphy is. If folks in LA dont fuck wit 40 cuz he said " Jesus Christ had dreads , so shake 'em" imagine what kinda reasons niggas in NY will come up with not embrace sumthin brand new and foriegn to thay lifestyle.

I can tell you it aint on tha radio over there. It just got on MTV which is a different demographic than MTV2. Folks ain shit yet. NIggas should be juiced that we back in tha mainstream and dumb it out when the MOVEMENT get on tha TOUR hype. Tha hyphy tour is gone let folks know wus treal.
