turn the lock on, then off again. hold the center button and the bottom button down simultaneously for a few seconds. it will then restart. if that doesnt work, try the water

Co-Sign on the boiling water. My shit had a folder with an X through it...I threw some water in the pot, boiled it, dropped it in when it started bubbling, and voila ! My iPod came back on, and the weird thing is, I had all this music that I didn't have on there before. Actually, it was music that I wanted for years, but could never find. Also, there was porn on it after the boil...lots of it !

but real talk, you dont have to "update" it, just reset it holding the menu button and the middle button.
if not, just let it sit for awhile.
