What you know bout Mitchy Slick? Want info; ask po-po bout his click. He from San Diego; where you gangbang out the embryo. It’s fucked up, but it’s what he calls home. U.S.S., is the reason for the chrome. The stress is Urban Survival Syndrome. He say SD under police control. Damn near got 24 hour foot patrol. Po-po messing up SD dough; they got Mitch in the terrorist portfolio. It’s hard even putting on shows; probably go be somebody that get shot on the dance flo’. Slick talk about the stuff they pull. It’s against the law to have a pitbull. How come San Diego ain’t on the map? Ain’t no labels messing wit Mitchy raps. He all business; I’ll vouch for that. He did the interview while trying to change a flat. Police wanna lock down the hood and enjoy they “valley.” If not, Mitchy would be the Jeezy outta Cali. But, that’s not the case cuz SD is like the Terror dome. That’s why Mitchy album called Urban Survival Syndrome.

HHDX: Your album is called U.S.S.; will the album reflect the feeling and mood of the title?

Mitchy: It’s the life I’m living, what everybody else in urban areas use to survive. Some guys have to act wild and do bad things. So what I did (with the album) is give you a day of might take place; even if it’s dealing wit a girl or hanging out trying to get some “relaxion” to outside the bullshit that’s going on. For instance, you dealing wit this girl from another hood than yours. It’s just the mind state of cats living like this.

Mitchy: Hold on homie.
(to someone else) Pullover right there, at that gas station.
(to me) Yeah, you there? My fault, man I going through so much shit right now; I got a flat tire and some more shit. (pause) Yeah, ask that question again.

HHDX: Reading some of your other interviews, you speak of San Diego as a town run by police. How did they gain control?

Mitchy: What it is man, it’s the city. They wanna preserve they tourism. I study, I read a lot of controversial books and I just see its just human nature. They have the best, drinking water; they got the flyest shit over here. Coronado, that’s like a paradise, and the forefathers treated the area as something to be cherished. So trying to protect that, a whole lot of bullshit came outta that. Its (racism) so obvious. 4 million people live in San Diego and there are 4 major grocery stores in the black community. Outside of that-I mention the grocery stores so you’ll get the size- you don’t see any black people working in the stores. Ain’t no black in San Diego doing shit; we ain’t owning shit; its probably two black owned liquor stores. That’s crazy wit the size of the city. They just make the black people feel like hell. The part of the beach where black people be is 1/16 of the entire beach. 89% of the police be where the black folks at; checking for window tints, cracked windshields, license plates, just little dumb shit. It just ain’t the police, its how they take care of that town. Man, I be outta town and be scared to jaywalk. My homies be tripping off me, but I’m Diego. My homie put a DVD out; they show like 30 cities over the country, Kansas City, Arizona, and the part of the DVD when they came to Diego, they got arrested

HHDX: That’s fucked up. Where they get em at?

Mitchy: They was just in the parking lot, at our swap meet, just selling music and promoting they shit. Police pulled up on em for that; why didn’t that happen anywhere else in the country, that’s Diego.”

HHDX: When did the gang files come about?

Mitchy: I was talking about the gang junction. They put in a file for dumb shit. You get into a fight at school, new in town, the police come up there, check yo neighborhood and mark you. You could be 10 years old, junior high, elementary, and they i.d. you wit a gang. (Over here) everybody is a gangbanger, yo neighborhood is yo gang, that’s how it is. It’s not as bad as when I came up cuz of the (gang) prevention. In the 80’s it was out there, its more calm now. But, everybody the police come in contact with they go make (i.d.) you a gangbanger. Now every time they see you, you go get harsher punishments if they can throw gang related on you. Now, the gang junction is something the state of California came out with. They go up to homes in yo neighborhood with a petition and booklets asking people to i.d. you as a nuisance to the community. You could be a juvenile, never been arrested and get put on a list based off hearsay. When you on that list, they regulate where you can be. You (allegedly) wit this gang, another (allegedly) wit another gang, ya’ll go to a football game and get seen by police, both of ya’ll going to jail.”

Mitchy: (to someone else) Do yo thang homie.
(response)

Mitchy: Naw, my good phone.
(“Its in yo pocket.”)

Mitchy: No it ain’t.
(“You just had that motherfucker.”)

Mitchy: (finds phone) Its smaller than I thought it was.

HHDX: What other regulations do they enforce?

Mitchy: They can say where I can and can’t be. They can say where I can’t be with whoever. You not supposed to have pitbulls. They regulate colors; I don’t even think we supposed to have cell phones! You can’t flag anybody down, you can’t be seen throwing this or that sign. All that shit can send you to jail. I think increase the amount of time they hold for each violation. I got my own theory, but we ain’t go get into that. They done fingered us out; made us out to be the baddest motherfuckers. I got my I.D. run in Vegas and when it came back, they said I registered as a terrorist.

HHDX: A terrorist?

Mitchy: On my I.D. they say I’m a terrorist, real shit.

HHDX: When they take you in on for what they consider gang association, how long do they detain you?

Mitchy: For the older O.G. niggas, its way…yyy deeper. They try to tie them up wit bigger crimes. You know, the murders, conspiracy charges, and shit like that. But, the lil’ niggas they just harass the little cats wit that shit. I don’t be on the street everyday. You know, that’s young niggas shit. 18, 17, 19, etc walking or hanging out. When you at my age, you driving and never in one place for to long. So for us, (the O.G.’s), its just a free past for them to come in the house, whenever they want, check my car, or me.

HHDX: They give you fines too

Mitchy: Naw, I don’t know nothing about no fines. They put on the list and show the hangout spots, rules, everybody rap sheet.

HHDX: So if they get you on little bullshit every time, they increase how long they hold you?

Mitchy: All off of hearsay; I think its like 3 times and they hold you for like a year or 6 months. I’m trying to get off the shit. Its me and like 40 other motherfuckers on the gang junction. Its from some long running stuff from back in the 80’s. Some of my homies took the fall for a rookie cop getting killed. Some nigga snitched on em’ and they went to jail for 12 years behind that. It was the rookie chasing some cats in front of my grandmother house and he got killed. The nigga that snitched had to do some time and finally came clean,(that he was lying about what he witnessed); but, my homies had already did 12 years before that. The cops point me as a direct person involved, so since they can’t solve the case, they choose to fuck me up. Like, “Naw, he ain’t go make it rapping.” They put my video on the news saying I was responsible for gang wars, Strong Arm Robbery was supposed to be the cause of streets wars if you let them tell it.

HHDX: Let’s talk about your music; what qualities do you have that can take you to the top?

Mitchy: My story, its not glorifying the violence, but I just got so much to say. I don’t even carry a rhyme book no more like I used to. Everything I do in the studio now is right there; I’m thinking about the stuff that I did and the stuff I got away wit. I talk about things I witnessed. I was the number one nigga from my hood, but I still got to go to a university and get the black college experience. A nigga really played quarterback in high school. I ain’t got no major label and I’m still was on Rap City; still sitting on the block with the homies. I remember I was 19, riding wit a girl who got murdered in my car, right beside me. I was a little nigga not knowing what to do.

HHDX: How did you get out that situation without getting laid down?

Mitchy: Man, they only shot one time. One bullet, my homies was right there at the store 30 deep, so they shot once. The girl I met her the same day; she wasn’t even from San Diego. Its all on the DVD, Strong Arm Robbery 2.

HHDX: How did you get to doing shows in San Diego?

Mitchy: Man, its hard because of the gang scene. I been in the XXL’s, Source, stuff like that and I still don’t get offered that many shows. They know of about the gang element and all the niggas in my hood don’t come out at once cause of that. Upstate, its no different because they know it’s some real gangster shit going on. Maybe if I was down South, I would have different opinion about shows.

HHDX: So its safe to say, “you’re the Jeezy of San Diego?”

Mitchy: I’ll say this, if I was down South wit my status, yeah. And Jeezy the shit. Its just the matter of getting a shot, you know niggas didn’t know about him over here before he got on TV. That’s all niggas really need is a shot.

HHDX: Thanks, man I can tell you had a fucked up day so thanks. Give some shout outs.

Mitchy: This yo boy Mitchy Slick, go get that Strong Arm Robbery 1&2 and don’t forget my album, U.S.S. Urban Survival Syndrome. Check me out like that, clack clack clack clack clack.
