I think that FAB more than likely isn't as bad as he seems with what seems to be an addiction to attention. I have to agree with some of the other post about him seeming like an "attention whore" or at the least as him being the type that you will often find yourself saying, "that guy is doing waaaay to much." Personally I think all of this would be a muted point if he would drop a respectable album that would over shadow his over the top antics. Because really you can't fault people for formulating opinions about the things that he is flooding websites with. And since the things are based on non music related material set in candid or "real" moments they seem to represent him as a man. With that said...since people are basing their opinions on what he puts out there, then the fault is partially his own. Now you seem like you know him based on how you are defending-- which you should, but that would make YOU the one with a biased opinion in this case. The rest of the people (including myself) are only speaking on what he as a public figure puts out there.
You make a lot of good points and you are right about the fact that if he would hurry up and drop an album people would probably forget about so of that other shit he's known for. The thing is, you say he's flooded websites with "over the top" stuff. Other than the chain snatching JOKE, what has he done that's "over the top?" The only other times I see FAB is when he's speaking on real shit. The Oscar Grant situation, his weekly blogs where he does the freestyles. Everything else is just normal shit that rappers do. What is he doing that's makes him an ATTENTION WHORE that doesn't make any of these other rappers that are doing basically the same shit ATTENTION WHORES? I just think FAB really gets a bad rap. That's just me.

I hear what you are saying Truth but I think it isn't fair to make it seem as if everything that Fab is dropping is non-music related. Since his last album(which in my opinion was respectable but as you rightfully stated my opinion is biased) he has dropped a slew of mixtapes, songs on not only this site but allhiphop.com, hiphopdx, wwsh, and continues to work on dropping a quality album in these hard times in the music business. Im just confused when folks are talking about he is an attention whore because of what..the way he dresses? because of the chain snatching parody? because he was invited to participate in the smoke-a-thon?

Like it or not the internet is what is poppin right now and there are ALOT of artists dropping non-music related material and it is getting noticed on websites that hundreds of thousands of people visit every day just to see non- music related material. These websites SEEK out material because people SEEK out this form of entertainment so maybe we need to be critiquing fans and not artists. To make it in this business truly, i believe you have to have a personality that extends beyond your music where your fans want to do more than just follow your music but your every step. I am from the old school of thought that music is art and thats what we should only pay attention to but it just does not work like that anymore.

Thanks for reading my post. I agree with you I think that most artist are doing the same self promotion as Fab. The only reason I'm talking exclusively about Fab is because this is the Bay Area rap forum so me mentioning all of the other people that I feel might fit into this ideal is not needed. I will admit that as a kid I was a fan of what Fab was doing, but I was a kid then now that I've grown I don't view his antics as entertaining. But like I said in another post I respect his hard work and I hope that he gets the chance to test his theory out on the Nation. At the end of the day as long as he is happy with himself then who gives a damn what any of us think. I am just making this observation and adding to the conversation on this website. If he made a classic album I would be the first to give him all of the kudos that he deserves, but since no album is out to talk about all we can talk about is these little videos on World Star and as you have said about Joe Buddens and others they are not helping themselves with these forms of promotion.

Sad, but true...I don't think your views are old school about it needing to be music as an art form being first and the measuring stick to which artist should be judged by is their works and talents. I just think that its sad that "we" as fans have influenced the "professionals" to let attention over shadow the need to produce quality product...and if you really look at it with the decline in hip-hop album sales maybe, just maybe listening to the fans and reading blogs coming from people that are downloading their music anyway-- isn't a wise move to make.

okay last post I promise but there is a really good book that just came out called "self destruct: the music industry in the digital age." This book highlights how much the industry has changed due too the internet as well as the blogosphere. Dont expect the majority of artists to make money anymore off of albums, the internet and fans have changed that. This whole convo of "attention whoring made me think of that.

You stay relevant buy making HOT MUSIC if your a rapper. You don't just do anything for attention like a toddler. I'm all for promotion of oneself, but the dude seems to find attention (like the fake chain snatching) good attention and it's not. He is an attention whore trying to anything to stay in the loop.
yeah he gotta do stuff like that cuz he cant make hit music these days.Im sure Atlantic told him 2 make a presence in hiphop if he wanna see a release date. And since KMEL is boycotting his music its nothin he can do but try 2 draw attention to himself.I wouldnt be surprised if he tried to bait 50 cent in a battle like yuk did.
