Experienced president and GM might want to join 49ers
There was some news tonight around the NFL that should pique the interest of 49ers fans. The talk in league circles is that there is a respected GM type who would like the opportunity to work for the 49ers.
There were a couple reports this evening that the Falcons have offered Bill Parcells a front-office position. Those separate reports originated from ESPN and Fox Sports. One of the reports stated that Falcons owner Arthur Blank told president and general manager Rich McKay he will not be back in the same role next season.
So, clearly, there appears a chance McKay will not be back with the Falcons in any role. Period.
There has been speculation for several weeks McKay thought his time was limited with the Falcons, and he did not expect to return next season. Around the same time, there was talk the 49ers were one of the teams McKay had pinpointed as a potential future employer.
That talk around the league surfaced a couple weeks ago after 49ers owner Denise DeBartolo York told the S,F, Chron she expected Mike Nolan to return to the 49ers next season but without the final say in personnel matters. York told the paper she thought the 49ers needed to hire a "strong" general manager.
McKay would certainly fit that profile.
