Mic and preamp question

i'm on a low budget so thats all i can afford. Let me know if ya'll think these are worth it.

get a studio projects or shure sm57 mic for 100 bucks
and then a m-dmp3 mic pre(if you need two channels) or studio projects vtb-1 for one channel, both 100 and some change

I got the MXL mic & a Behringer amp but I got the Ultragain Pro 2200 which is few above the one u listed. I'm very happy with the sound of the combo personally.

The thing to keep in mind with reviews is that everyone reviewing has different needs... Some reviewers require top of the line sound, while others have project studios. And some reviewers just have personal preferances that they express. Behringer is kind of hit and miss - some of their products are very good for budget minded customers, and other products are crap plain and simple.

I've heard good things about the adk 51-s type III and type V with an art pre. I'd say that the MXL 990 shines with guitars if you want a bright sound and it can work for vocals also with some eq'ing.
