he was only 'kidding' when he was bashing the UFC and its fighters, according to this story..

LAS VEGAS – UFC president Dana White said Saturday he plans to make Floyd Mayweather Jr. a multi-million dollar offer to fight his lightweight champion after Mayweather's numerous putdowns of mixed martial arts fighters.

About 90 minutes after Mayweather's victory over Oscar De La Hoya, a bout in which he earned $10 million plus a cut of the pay-per-view revenues that could double that figure, White said he was prepared to match Mayweather with UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk.

White wouldn't be pinned down on a specific number, though he said, "I promise you, I will make it worth his while. I will make it very worth his while."

White was undaunted even after hearing of Mayweather's large payday.

"I told you, we can make him a very, very competitive offer if he still feels he can beat one of our guys," White said.

White was so angry at repeated comments made by Mayweather disparaging the UFC and mixed martial artists during the buildup to his fight with De La Hoya that he brought UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta and Sherk to the MGM Grand Garden to make a case for a fight with Mayweather.

Mayweather sent a peace offering to White via UFC vice president Marc Ratner before Saturday's bout. Mayweather told Ratner to tell White he was only kidding when he was ripping the UFC and its fighters.

"Floyd talked to Marc Ratner and he told Marc, 'Tell Dana I love him and all this talk about the UFC was just hype,' " White said. "Floyd and I used to be really close and I was kind of disappointed and (ticked) off with the way he was talking."

As for Sherk, White said, "He loved being here and seeing the atmosphere, and I think he left here believing he'd beat the living (expletive) out of the guy if he ever got the chance."

ANYBODY CAN GET KNOCKED OUT AND THE WAY MMA HAS BEEN GOING. I WOULDNT DOUBT IF MAYWEATHER WOULD GET KNOCKED OUT BY A UFC FIGHTER IF HE DID GET IN THE CAGE...JUST LIKE CROCOP DID AGAINST A GRAPPLER. WOULDNT THAT BE IRONIC???

In a boxing ring with boxing gloves and boxing rules, maywether would win. Now if he stepped into the UFC where mostly anything goes he'd get mopped up being that he has no ground game or shoot defense. You know the UFC guys would not make it a standup fight at all.

kouldnt of said it better!! Mayweather kan handle his in tha ring under boxing rules but tha Octagon.. he wouldnt stand a chance!! Plus, UFC gloves are only about 4 inches thick.. I think.. doesnt matter.. UFC gloves are a lot thinner than boxing gloves which makes it a whole lot easier to feel tha punches if u get ya helmet tagged!! Plus, if u gettin punched.. there aint much cushion like boxing gloves.. you're gonna feel an iron fist!! Matter fact.. let me rephrase.. if tha match is a stand-up fight.. Mayweather kould possibly win but if it goes to tha ground.. its curtains!!

I wish boxing was like underground hip hop, like away from the craze and superficialness of the mainstream.. It seems that all people are interested in nowadays is the retarded Barbaric UFC knock out type shit.. Fuck seeing people almost get killed, just like with Hip Hop I enjoy the skill level more than the drama.. I guess I'm just a throw back boxing purest type though, I don't understand some of you kids..

NAH BOXING IS NOTHING LIKE IT USED TO BE...IT WENT FROM 15 ROUNDS TO 10...MOST CHAMPS ARE AFRAID TO PUT THERE BELT ON THE LINE ANYMORE...PROSPECTS FED CANS HALF THEIR CAREERS, JUST TO GET ATE UP ONCE THEY FACE ONE SOLID FIGHTER...AND IT IS FIXED, SOMETHING I HAVE SEEN WITH MY OWN EYES...PLUS THE HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION SUCKS DONKEY BALLS...IMO BOXING SORTA DIED WITH MIKE TYSON. WIN OR LOSE THAT GUY MADE SHIT CRACK. LEWIS SUCKED AND WAS BORING.

NOW MMA IS THE CLOSEST YOU WILL EVER SEE TO ACTUAL COMBAT...TRUE IT IS STILL A SPORT BUT THE COMPETITORS ARE VERY WELL ROUNDED IN EVERY ASPECT...AND THAT IS THE BEAUTY...SUB,KO,OR DECISION...WHAT WILL YOU GET? NOBODY KNOWS

BY THE WAY MMA I BELEIVE HAS ONLY HAD ONE DEATH EVER AND THAT WAS BY A GUY WHO WASNT CLEARED TO FIGHT IN ONE COUNTRY DUE TO BRAIN TRAUMA WHO STILL PRESSED HIS LUCK AND FOUGHT IN ANOTHER COUNTRY AND DIED AS A RESULT...WHERE AS BOXING? WE HEAR ABOUT A DEATH WHAT ABOUT EVERY 6 MONTHS OR SO?...TO EACH THERE OWN BUT GET THE FACTS STRAIGHT.

I hear ya. But you know, compare the amount of boxing matches that go on, compared to MMA fights, and theres probably 3 boxing matches for every one MMA fight. MMA is far more brutal, with the knees, elbows, and kicks to the head.

C'mon now, theres no way that MMA is safer than boxing. It just hasn't been around long enough for these kinds of things to happen.

Hahahaha the tight thing about Dana White is hes just like us. A FAN! I knew he would step up to make this happen but Mayweather doesn't want to get beat the fuck up in the Octagon. Boxing is a snoozefest and MMA is 10x more exciting to watch. BTW MMA has 0 deaths ever in sanctioned events.

there has been more than 1 death in MMA, the old UFC had like 5-10 deaths alone.. thats why they cancelled it for a while.. and made it illegal.

FEDOR WOULD KNOCK THE FUCK OUT OF MAYWEATHER, of course we are talking a major weight advantage.

lol your wrong. Check your facts homie cause I don't know who told you that. Search google. Douglas Dedge is MMA's only death and it wasn't in a sanctioned event.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mixed_martial_arts

"The only verified fatality in MMA competition is the 1998 death of Douglas Dedge in a fight in the Ukraine. There are unconfirmed reports that Dedge had a pre-existing medical condition prior to the fight"

UFC has never had a death. Ever.

"So a network which telecasted what amounted to a snuff film live on television will have their image tarnished if they broadcast a sport that has never to date had a death in sanctioned competition? Really?"

Foxsports good enough for you? Any real MMA fan already knew this.
I DONT REMEMBER VERY WELL BUT I THINK DUDE SUFFERED BRAIN DAMAGE IN A ACCIDENT OR SOMESHIT AND WASNT ABLE TO FIGHT IN THE US THATS WHY HE WENT OVER SEAS.....
